I was wondering what brand was best to pour boiling water in into when we reconstitute our meals? Most durable I suppose.

I been using Ziplock frezer bags for about 5 years. I have had 2 bags in the 5 years that leaked. I bring 2 spare bags just in case.

Zip Lock Freezer bags. If you try something else, try them at home in your kitchen sink. Pour boiling water into them, over the sink, and let them sit for 10 minutes. Any leaks will tell you that is the wrong brand. You are looking for the most mils thickness. I have used Ziplocks now for a decade or better, with no leaks at all. My hiking bud tried to go cheaper once, and lost a couple of his dinners to leakage on that trip. He went back to Ziplocks.
This is the reason FBC is named that. Freezer Bag Cooking. Ziplocks just happen to be the thickest, as far as I know.

I agree with Zeke. I've yet to find any other brand that's as thick and tough as the Ziplock freezer bags. And anything short of freezer bags is too wimpy. The only other workable option is the bags for use with a vacuum sealer; I do seal a few meals but then you have to cut them open so can't reseal while the food is cooking. They are super-tough though.

A little? 70 cents each for a quart (almost) bag? Presumably they'd stand up to several reuses, but that's not cheap.

Well, it's worth it to me. It's nice that the bags are BPA free and they stand up on their own. I don't really see 70 cents as being that big of a deal. But, I don't have kids and it's usually just me using them, so I know that's not the same. Also, babyboomers bitch about the price of everything, hahaha

That's good, regarding the ziplocs. I still don't mind 70 cents, and I like that the packit cook-in bags stand up on their own.
Hey, whatever blows your hair back...

Also, babyboomers bitch about the price of everything, hahaha That's why we're retiring in comfort (Seriously, though, my parents grew up in the Depression, and I grew up poor. I do tend to err on the side of cheap).

Babyboomers get to "retire in comfort", but the rest of us are left with the mess from believing in that bullshit 1950's fantasy we were sold from the time we were born. I grew up poor as well. 6 sisters. alcoholic European parents blah blah blah. I work hard, and get whatever I want, within in reason. I mean, is 70 cents for a bag really that big of a deal? haha Please don't take any of my post as aggression. I am incredibly dry and sarcastic, and I love a good debate. I know that doesn't always translate well in forums/text.

Different work situations allow for varied lifestyles. The way a person decides to pay themselves first, by putting aside $ for the future, can decide how comfortable they will be in their later years. Each person has to make their own plan, and not rely on any outside source.

Exactly, Zeke. I am quite aware frugality can go too far, but most of my life it's served me well. I get most of what I want, now--but I still like to make sure what I'm spending on is the stuff that will be most worthwhile (so we'll pay for a trip abroad, but wash and re-use Ziplock bags. Sometimes it seems weird).

Do you bring one bag and a spare. If you just bring one bag how do you clean the bag in the field? Or do you bring a bag for each meal and clean them at home? How do you clean them at home? If you bring one bag for each meal, where do you store the used bags; like a oder proof bag? How many seasons and uses do you get from a bag?
