Why my wife has to have the air conditioning on in the car but then wants to sit outside when we get to the restaurant. It's all about the moving air ... Cars are stifling when no air is moving -- and open windows messes up your hair! You need professional help. Nah - not that bad. But it gets us to put away the books/magazines/newspapers etc. that are cluttering the living areas. And we do have a golden retriever who sheds like nobody's business. Or ... maybe I'm just in denial?!

I seldom eat outside at a restaurant. Too warm, don't need exhaust fumes with my meal, road noises. Now, if none of those apply, then I am good with sitting outside.
What I don't understand is people who act like their pet rules them. M's cat makes demands on her, after being trained to do some odd shit, like drinking out of a glass on her nightstand. Now, M has to keep her own water glass on the next shelf down, while the cat has it's own glass on top. Lots of other little crap. When it is just me and the cat at home, it gets along fine acting like a cat. I refuse to buckle under the pressure. Might say I am a dominant male, whether it be dogs or cats.

Behavior in divorce. I understand the various reasons people divorce, but I don't understand how two people who once loved each other can be so nasty to each other, especially if kids are involved.

but I don't understand how two people who once loved each other can be so nasty to each other, especially if kids are involved. This is perhaps the saddest part of divorce, coupled with the manipulation and use of children to hurt the spouse. Some younger members of the family have gone through this, with especially harsh treatment by the father toward not only his wife but his children. These little kids just don't have the coping mechanisms and can end up emotionally damaged for years. But I wouldn't limit the harsh treatment to the fathers only; although I've only seen it in parents whose children are grown, women can be just as vicious as men.

What I don't understand: Why people are giving serious answers to this thread. :D I'm not a person. I'm a three-dimensional incarnation of my avatar with the illusion of free will. It must be an illusion because I'm not even sure why I'm typing this. I do feel thirsty, though.

My first wife and I gave each other divorce presents. I gave her a stereo system and she gave me a camera. When my second wife and I split, I gave her half the value of the trailer we owned. About $2000. Back then, that was enough for her to move to Michigan and get established in her life chapter. No hurt, no hate. Some sadness. But, time is indeed the best healer.

I don't understand the one-shoe thing.
I got reminded of the one-shoe thing, this past week, whiles on a day hike, in the Sawtooth Wilderness. Sitting on a stump, several miles into the wilderness area, was a boot. On the way back to the trailhead, I stopped to look at the boot. A good boot. Something I'd see in a good outdoor store and, in this case, would consider buyinng.
So, I imagine, "I" am a few miles away from the car and "I" decide to stop, take off "my" boot and, leaving "my" boot behind, head to the car. Wearing just one boot?
What am I missing? Who does that? I really do not understand!

If they are like me maybe they took their boots off and swapped to some sandals to cool their feet off. Maybe they tied their boots to their pack, but not good enough and one fell off?

Ohm is a measure of resistance. Do you run in to a lot of ohms on the trail? Is there an equation that includes pack weight vs ground hardness also?

Ohm is a measure of resistance. Do you run in to a lot of ohms on the trail? Is there an equation that includes pack weight vs ground hardness also? Now-a-days, I run into a lot more Mhos then Ohms. There is preceived relationship between packweight and ground hardness but I am not familiar with the formula.

There's also a safety factor, in metropolitan areas. When I worked in Detroit, I would never roll the windows down, and kept a tire iron tucked between the seats, just in case. Even in the SE Michigan suburbs, there are too many aggressive drivers to gamble on having open windows. I don't carry a tire iron with me any more, but I keep my eyes straight ahead and avoid eye contact with others on the road. Too many nuts out there. Don't forget rolling an occasional stop light. Did a few of those after a Tigers game a while back when I had to take an alternate path out. cweston, no other city sells t-shirts at the movie theaters with phrases like "Detroit: where the weak are killed and eaten" and "I'm so bad, I vacation in Detroit." I think I'll have to see if they still have those later this week.

This thread sounds like a combination of George Carlin and Steven Wright.
