Hello fellow hikers,
My boyfriend and I are about to embark on a 9 day motorcycle trip from Montana to S. Dakota and only have two days at each location to do some hiking. Any recommendations on what the best day hikes are in Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Teton?? We really wanted to do the Highline Trail at Glacier from Logan Pass to The Loop (Glacier) but I am beginning to doubt that we'd be able to do it in the 15-16 hours of daylight of the days we will be there. We haven't been able to decide what trails to do in the other parks. We'd like to at least touch the CDT.
Looking forward to hearing your advice.
Thanks, Joy

I'd suggest this: www.hike734.com/hikingAnd this: www.hike734.com/hikingyellowstone Both are excellent guides. For Glacier, my two favorites are The Highline Trail. Lots of hikers but very doable in your time frame and Dawson Pass. Both are great. In Yellowstone, Mount Washburn and the Seven Mile Hole (it's really only about 5 miles in). Have fun.

Hello fellow hikers, My boyfriend and I are about to embark on a 9 day motorcycle trip from Montana to S. Dakota and only have two days at each location to do some hiking. Define "about to embark" ! If you mean in the next day/week or two you're going to be SOL to find any trails not buried in snow or even "Going to the Sun Highway" open to get to Logan Pass.

We are going in mid-June. Still a bit early, especially for Glacier. Many of the high country trails there will still be snowed in. Maybe not so much in Yellowstone, but the highest and probably the low lying trails there, such as the Bechler region, are going to be soggy.

Teton's likewise. You're a month too early to try any long hikes without significant snowpack.

Thank you everyone for your responses. I was beginning to fear that after much research. Too late to change plans since flights are booked.

Glacier Park. The highline trail is phenomenal, bullhead lake, and iceberg lake are also very very nice. Another option that is much easier but very fun way to spend a few hours is go to Many Glacier hotel, take the boat across the lake, u will do a short hike, take a boatt ride across another lake and then hike to grinnel lake. Its a very nice trip that is diverse.
Yellowstone park: There is a phenomenal view from Avalanche Peak. It is a short hike but very steep, if your legs are in decent shape it is well worth the effort. Mt Washburn is also nice but Avalanche Peak blows it away in my opinion. Maks sure you hike the enter geyser basin around Old Faithful and see those geysers, also make sure to sped some time in Lamar Valley
FYI in the Tetons if u have the time to do some kayaking in the morning around the big lakes, under the Tetons then do it for sure. The wind gets bad in the evening afternoon, but done miss the oportunity to kayak, especially with a company guide if u can.
Also glacierhikers.com is a decent reference site for hikes in glacier, It helped me pick alot of hikes on my first trip to glacier.

Ahh my bad I didnot see you said mid june.... FYI you likely wont be able to do Iceberg lake or highline at that time, very sketchky due to avanlance shoots. I did bullhead lake in late june years ago and it was marvelous. Ranger Jake on facebook just posted a video of bullhead lake, I think it will be a good trail in June pending not much more snow. It appeared ok in his videos. FYI if you have facebook i would suggest liking glacier national park so you can view there posts and see there pics and advice.

Avalanche Peak in Yellowstone is USUALLY a no go until much later but we are WARM here in the GYE and it MIGHT be possible. We are supposed to have above average precip in coming months but it could be rain aside from highest elevations.
If we have a good melt Lake of the Crags is now my favorite hike in GTNP since Rimrock Lake is beyond me now. If snow is an issue great lower elevation hikes like Hermitage Point PAST the Swan Lake/Heron Pond loop, Bearpaw and Trappers Lakes, Bradley and Taggart, around Phelps which I prefer to Jenny, Lower Canyon Reaches, etc. This might POSSIBLY be a year you could take the Tram up and hike down Granite Canyon, AWESOME. One of the best places for Moose on Planet Earth. Even Ampitheatre Lake COULD BE tracked by the timeyou get here, just depends on what happens.
Outside the park the southern approaches of the Gros Ventre Range and the begining of the Glacier Trail in the Winds outside Dubois are my go to earleir season JOYS. You also MIGHT be able to hike Huckleberry MT., great historic lookout with stellar views of the Teton Range, the remotest wilds of the 48 states in the Teton Wilderness of the Bridger-TetonNational Forest, and Southern Yellowstone.
Wind and Ice Caves MIGHT be a go. Taylor Mt. [near Teton Pass] was awesome mid June 2012.
I could go on forever. If you want help once you have good maps let me know.
John

I only got to spend one day in the Bridger Teton Forest but I got to camp there, i think it was called Shadow Mtn, does that sound correct?
FYI like he said, Taggert, Bradely and Jenny Lake, very good areas in my opionion.
Also yeah FYI, I hiked Avalanche Peak in I belive it was late june that year but there was minor snowpack that year, was still snow on parts of the hike however.

Shadow Mt. is just NE of Antelope Flats. Great vehicle camping area, unfortunately our acute housing shortage has made it home for some seasonal folks.

Is there a way to set up notifications so I know when someone has responded? I thought I did but I'm not getting anything.
