Just curious as I sit here listening to some old tunes. What are some of your favorite lyrics from oldies but goodies? I just listened to "Don't think twice, it's all right" by Peter, Paul and Mary and written by Bob Dylan. "I ain't saying you treated me unkind. You could have done better, but I don't mind. You just sort of wasted my precious time. Don't think twice, it's all right." Great line. I think most of us could relate to that at some time in our lives.

Gordon Lightfoot has penned some absolutely fabulous lyrics, which convey meaning and feeling with ease.
"Does anyone know where the love of god goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?"
"Sometimes I think it's a shame when I get feeling better when I'm feeling no pain."
"Sometimes I think it's a sin when I feel like I'm winning when I'm losing again."
Just three off the top of my head.

Dylan wrote so many great lyrics it is just too difficult to choose the top ten lines or couplets.

"American Pie" by Don McLean bundles a host of images about the loss of youthful idealism portrayed for us in some of the musical artists of the early age of rock and roll. Some of the imagery that appeals to me: [/i][/ul] Somewhat different circumstances applied to me, but the theme of lost idealism is similar. Back then it may be that " Them good ole boys were drinking whiskey and rye," but that is not what we were smoking. And to our way of thinking, what we were smoking made a big difference.

I like lines that evoke actual images. "She comes out of the sun, in a silk dress, running like a water color in the rain." -Al Stewart, Year of the Cat

To Live is to Fly by Townes Van Zandt. The entire song is one memorable lyric. Here are a couple of stanzas.
We all got holes to fill And them holes are all that's real Some fall on you like a storm Sometimes you dig your own
The choice is yours to make And time is yours to take Some dive into the sea Some toil upon the stone

When I'm with you girl, I get an extension......and I don't mean Alexander Graham Bell's invention.

I'm often reminded of Guy Clark's lyrics. Such as: The sweet bird of youth was sitting on my shoulder yesterday, but she's always changing partners and I always knew she'd up and fly away.
