So if snowmelt commences in earnest, do those accustomed to these mountains think the passes be relatively easy by late June?
(I know the northern sides will at least have some residual snow - have a permit for the Sierra -> Tahoe portion of the PCT later this summer .. the rest of the PCT seems burnt)

How high a pass? Those at 10-12,000 hold some of their tens of feet reliably into July.

Any guesstimate on the amount in the Little Lakes Valley in early June?

Any guesstimate on the amount in the Little Lakes Valley in early June? check out Tuolumne Meadows numbers for a similar year I'd say. CDEC does historical levels. They might have a station near there. I just know the code for Tuolumne: TUM Though there's also a map that doesn't like my phone.

South Sierra: Family's traditional backpacking season started on Father's Day and Cottonwood Lakes (east side from Lone Pine). For 10 consecutive years there was snow near 11,000' level...just at the lakes. Kids enjoyed infinite snow cones. 12,300' New Army Pass was an adventure with 12yo son. Even more fun coming down Old Army Pass. Day pack and didn't really need the ice axes. But did have fun practicing self arrest on tail end of snow...and of course glissades. End of July New Army Pass still had a 100' steep head wall of snow over trail. West side was clear. Wet year. You can look here too (and move around): www.nohrsc.noaa.gov/nsa/index.html?year=2016&month=4&day=7&units=e®ion=Western_Coastal

From another voice (Hiker 1 at TahoetoWhitney - prognosticator)
"Strange high temps combined with the still ample stock of tropical moisture in the Equatorial Pacific threatens the Sierra with early rains scouring the snowpack right off the range.
Today we are facing the first of a series of very warm Spring storms out of the tropics. These storms and their associated high temps threaten to remove the snowpack quite quickly and very early during Spring.
What This Means
An early and dangerous Spring Thaw. Early opening of trails. Early drying out of the mountains, early death of the mosquitoes, and an early and fierce fire season."
What does this mean? Dunno
For certain should be in Yosemite Valley for the runoff over the falls.

Any predictions for Half Dome Cables? I've got a plan for Memorial Day, but could postpone if there's a good chance they aren't going to be up.

It's snowing again in Truckee, and Lake Tahoe. A good dumping of wet snow with strong winds. How are the conditions in Mammoth and Bishop?

WIND! (in Bishop)
challenger...I'll probably be dayhiking up Mono Pass in May...it was 48% of normal snowpack there. There will only be snow near the pass.
The Merced River closed for rafting because of high water...it may currently be the peak for waterfalls this year

Plowing Tioga Road usually is scheduled to begin today, but, like income taxes...postponed until Monday.

About an inch of snow yesterday morning in the yard. Gone now.
We froze at granddaughters' soccer game Wed afternoon. Cold wind, no rain or snow. It is not often we drag out the winter parkas and polar base layers in April.

Hoping to get another of Hikerchick395's on the scene snow pack report direct from various trail heads.
Makes one wish (often) they live (and can afford) Bishop so they can roll out of bed and be on a trail head of choice in an hour.

Here's one from some one who just crossed Forester Pass: "Mountain Education added 2 new photos. 4 hrs · The steps across Forester's infamous chute have been cut in as of yesterday! Mountain Education's student Ralph Burgess finished today his second snow-hike of this route from Horseshoe Meadows, over Forester, and out Kearsarge Pass and we are happy to give you his impressions of the trail and snow conditions (his pictures to follow): 9,500-11,000 feet: Snowline begins at about 9,500 feet as scattered patches of snow on southern aspects and solid fields on northern. Creeks are open, but not a lot of volume due to pre-thaw temperatures, despite strong sun during the day...." www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1182792151745270&id=157155614308934
