European humans are an invasive, un-natural disaster everywhere they spread. Drop the "European" and you'll have something. advocates the mass extinction of a species on the North American continent Any introduced out-of-control species should be held in check, whether plants or animals. Have you ever paid attention to what a herd of wild hogs can do? They can turn several acres a night into rototilled destruction.

If I may, those who say wild hog is not tasty, I please invite you to hunt them and then bring the fresh kill to me. I'm sorta fond of it...
I hereby vow to do my part in the removal of wild hogs, one smoked shoulder or grilled chop at a time.
That said, I'm still not jumping off a cliff.

We're in a war against wild hogs here in Texas and I don't see any way to get rid of them. You can hunt them all you want but they are smart and adapt well to hunting pressure.
The meat is good but different than market pork. The fat doesn't break down into grease like farm raised pork and it is usually tougher unless you prep it right. Get a boar that is chasing to breed and they smell horrible as well as their meat.
Of all my encounters, I've been charged buy a big boar and treed by another. They can get mean.

Texas is the third most polluted state in the US---
U.S. states most affected by industrial air pollution Rank U.S. States Industrial Toxic Air Pollution (Millions of Pounds) 1 Ohio 58.66 2 Kentucky 51.87 3 Texas 41.58 4 Indiana 40.37
I would put wild hogs last on my list of things in Texas to clean up.

Let me be the second to advocate extinction of a species from the North American continent. In fact, I'll advocate several species for continental extinction.
Feral pig
African bees
Asian Carp
zebra mussels
starlings
Zeka viris
Giardia
goathead vine
and I'm still thinking about mosquitoes. I'd add them automatically but I think a lot of birds eat them.
I like the Boar Buster! I read where they have totally eradicated feral goats and donkeys from some Galapagos Islands. They had to decide if they wanted an island full of goats or a handful of tortoises and other native species. Same with another island full of feral donkeys. The tortoise population and native plants have made a remarkable recovery.

Maybe Donald Trump can come up with a solution.

We have such a strange group of backpackers in this forum. I am so often amazed by the amount of posts I find in a thread about something so out in left field as hog problems. Now...let's get back on topic. Who is going to offer to slaughter these issues in order to bring my bacon and how much will it cost me?

Who is going to offer to slaughter these issues in order to bring my bacon and how much will it cost me? tigger, i have had the "bacon" from these hogs. it is not what you would consider desirable. These hogs are very lean, and lack the fat reserves you'd find on a traditional farm pig. yes, there is apparently bad bacon out there. I'm sorry to break this news to you.

yes, there is apparently bad bacon out there. I think you've crossed a line...somewhere. If it comes from a pig, I don't think you can technically call it "bad". Turkey...yes, but pig bacon bad? These are obviously NOT pigs.

Nope, we call it hog. I agree, the fat layer on the pork belly is not the same. That said, it can be used for many other things. Wrap the whole belly around the loin...life gets good in a hurry.
