Those do look pretty nice--though not as cheap as my Target find they have a thong version too. Not interested. Some things just shouldn't be worn after age 50. Not that I ever wanted to wear butt floss.

I miss the original Under Armour nylon underwear from 5-10years ago.
Be careful with the new Under Armour panties: there are THREE STYLES....thong, cheeky, hipster. How much of a wedgie would you like? I find the hipster to be the best cut, and it stays put under leggings, immediate wedgie under gym shorts though. They are ultralight light and dry fast. No seams.

I'm always looking for the perfect garments. I've yet to find a truly comfortable bra, but that may be impossible, given that I hate the feel of anything tight around my body I wear a sports bra. I have 34DD boobs and a sports bra seems to be the only thing that feels comfortable. It wicks away sweat, but I haven't tried the wash/wring/dry test. I bought my bra at Sport Authority a couple years ago. It's a Champion High Support with wider shoulder straps. Nylon/Spandex. Maybe I need to get into hiking skirts. I like this idea, but I wonder about scratched legs and bugs. As I see was mentioned in a later post. With that said, a girl's best friend on the trail for whatever underwear she chooses is the handi-wipe that dries on the pack between uses. Exactly what are you talking about here Piper? I'd love to know what this is. A handi-wipe? Like a wet-nap thing? For freshening up?

A handi-wipe? Like a wet-nap thing? For freshening up? You can use those. Or carry a "pee rag" which in my case is a bandana that I use how it sounds. Also rinse it as needed/desired and can use it to "freshen up" a bit more. I wash every night, at the very least face, pits and nether regions. It's nice to have a dedicated cloth for the latter so you aren't using the same on all those parts!

rebeccad I like this idea of the handi-wipes. I have a bandana, but I don't use that for excretory functions. I wonder about the sanitary risks of rinsing and reusing tho. Have you had an problems with bladder infections or yeast infections (maybe) from reusing bandana or wet wipes? Sorry, TMI.

Those are important questions! No, I haven't had any issues. I used the bandana only for urine, so it really isn't picking up much of anything nasty. Carrying some handi-wipes for other uses and more sanitary needs is a good idea; I just don't use them all the time. Drying one and keeping it on the pack is the same as my bandana BTW, I carry a DIFFERENT bandana for other uses! In a very different color

rebeccad Thanks for this info. I know I need to get new underwear and I'm gonna look before our next trip. Do you just rinse the bandana out in a stream or something after you use it?

Do you just rinse the bandana out in a stream or something after you use it? Most of the time I just hang it back on my pack to dry. Once or twice a day I rinse it.

Getting ready for our first backpacking trip ever. Excited! But now I'm re-thinking underwear. Ha! REI or Dick's would have the brands listed here? Also, up here in the midwest, ticks are a major issue. I chose pants for that reason, but any pointers on best way to prevent or repel them?

REI for sure would have the ExOfficio undies; the cheap version I got at Target (I cut the cotton part off a pair, BTW, and it was still totally comfortable, maybe even more so because of better breathability; that brought drying time down to be competitive with the expensive stuff). Long pants are a good idea for a lot of reasons; in tick country I'd treat with Permethrin (sp?)--it's a bug repellent designed to go on clothes, not bodies. Tuck pants into socks (major dork quotient, I know, but better than Lyme Disease). I hate bugs. That's why my optimal backpacking trips are at high altitudes late in the season

Thank you. I hate bugs too, but love the outside. My family makes fun of me. lol

Just piping in here as someone who only wears skirts by reason of my faith.
I have some longer compression type shorts (bike shorts I think?) They come almost to my knees and are very very thin. No chafing or mosquito bites. I live in central AL and have found them to be cool enough but, you still get the added pros of the skirts (rain runs right down, a little more modesty when handling bathroom needs on higher traffic trails).
Just thought I would throw in my $.02!

I ended up modifying 3 pairs of the cheap Target undies (Fruit of the Loom, actually)--I went back and bought another package. They were more comfortable than my ExO undies, partly because they fit better, and partly because the fabric was softer. No problem drying them after a rinse, but conditions were such that cotton tighty-whities dried, too (I know, because ES had some along), so that was no test!
