Track & field, 4x400 mixed relay. O. My. God. The mixed relays, both on the track and in the pool, have been my favorite events. The mixed relays in track and pool were spectacular. They should have started doing those a long time ago.
There have been so many great events so far. The men's 1500m track was a great tactical race. The women's steeplechase was unbelievable. The women's sprints and hurdles were wonderful. Almost every swimming event was thrilling. The winning throw in women's discus was astounding.

That mens 1500m... wow.
The finale of the women's cycling road race was great.
I'm really looking forward to the final of the women's 400m hurdles.

The finale of the women's cycling road race was great. That was just other-worldly.

So many great races on the track this year! Quincy Hall was unbelievable in the 400m final. It looked like he was going to collapse and he suddenly took off. Cole Hocker in the 1500m was stupendous as well. And Kenneth Rooks was a total surprise in the steeplechase. It seemed like he couldn't believe nobody was making a break, so he went for it.
The women were just as exciting. Gabby Thomas is in another world.
ETA: My best personal prognostication was Winfred Yavi in the women's steeplechase. She was back in the second pack with several laps to go when I said there's no way she could lose. She was just cruising too easy, obviously waiting for the right moment to bust out

Even if I wasn't cheering for the US those would all be excellent races. Judging from the crowd noise, they agree. Looking forward to see what McLaughlin is truly capable of. Quincy Hall was unbelievable in the 400m final. It looked like he was going to collapse and he suddenly took off. He looked off from the start. Slight limp. By the 2nd turn I 100% thought he was going to back off with a pulled hammy. My best personal prognostication was Winfred Yavi in the women's steeplechase. Yes!!! I did the same exact thing!!! She seemed to be casually cruising and then would pop to the front in 5 strides when she felt like it.

So Noah Lyles ran third in the 100m, collapsing afterward and later revealing he’d tested positive for Covid-19 but ran anyway because these days Olympic rules don’t care about medical risks involving communicable diseases amongst the competitors. I checked, neither does the Tour de France.
For endurance competitions where just about every athlete has one form or another of exercise induced asthma I suppose what’s one more health risk?

I was perplexed by this as well. It has proven to be such a debilitating and deadly disease in many cases.

And he embraced the winner afterward. I wonder how many others he exposed. I noticed that he was wearing a mask yesterday, but took it off in a roomful of people when they were doing paperwork.

Looking forward to see what McLaughlin is truly capable of. She didn't disappoint. Her form is so perfect. When she passed Cockrell, the difference was remarkable.

You know WHY they are diagnosed with exercise-induced asthma, right?!?!? Well aside from the actual damage they’ve done to their lungs which is an established medical fact it IS a convenient way around some of those bans on a class of really effective PEDs. Which is why I’m anti anti drugs in sports. Let they and their doctors sort it out. It’s not like there’s not a cost benefit calculation already in play on damage they’re going to inevitably incur. Informed consent.
