This wasn't an issue on the local trails near my old house, but it is at the new place. I'm looking for something that will keep me safe, presumably blaze orange. Or I could just do something else all winter, I dunno.
All of the stuff I currently wear this time of year is old. They seem like the following pieces, but I don't know what they're called. No insulation, no goretex. Usually a hood. More than a light wind or rain shell. I wear a long sleeve layer under it, of varying weight depending on the weather. I often end up unzipping the jacket at least partially as I start to generate heat.

Suggestions?

I usually just pick up a cheap hunting vest at any sporting goods store. If you want a piece of gear that might actually be functional, Kuiu makes nice stuff, some of it in hunter orange: link

I think precautions in the hunting season depends on where you are. I live near the Catskills and that is the closest place to NYC to go deer hunting. I will not go there during deer hunting season. Too many yahoos who bought a gun and want to blast a deer. In the NYS hunter class they tell you that some dairy farmers write COW on the sides of their cows in big florescent orange letters. I have read about hunters going through a check point with a dead goat. Another story was a group of hunters got pulled over and had a deer in the trunk. It was still alive. So what you wear there may not matter if there are people who might shoot anything that moves.
In most other forests around here like the Adirondacks, I trust the hunters there more.

I use one of those cheap plastic orange vests and put it on my pack rather than my person.

I'm starting to think that a trip to Tractor Supply should get me what I need.

I have a cheap, light, synthetic hunting vest with lots of pockets and a stocking cap from Ramsey Outdoor. Both were bought years ago at their summer sidewalk sale.

Blaze orange ski mask/balaclava, in acrylic, would be an option too. If not wanting a new pack, maybe a blaze orange pack cover, bigger orange or hi viz add-ons to daisy chain loops, and fanny accessory pack. Hi viz pants are usually on discount too.
While I’m pretty stealthy in the summer (earth tones, etc..), as cold weather approaches out in the boonies I at least start adding more hi-viz gear anyways. There’s fewer camping too.
Don’t forget the new lighting options. I’ve brought a basic solar lamp/lantern (inflatable) on my winter camps as days can get longer and now they come with different colors. Another is get a hi-viz winter shelter a bit translucent so said lantern’s white light makes the whole shelter glow. I’ve been in my gray tarp tent when hunters rustled around as the sun went down .. even in the southwestern states.
