One of my rules for places with more than one possible pair is that you get to choose where to pop out. Sounds like you have a writing a book planned for your retirement.

On my current road trip, I spent the night in Fayetteville, Arkansas; passed near Fayetteville, Tennessee; and might soon go through Fayetteville, North Carolina. I went through Boise, Idaho and Boise City, Oklahoma. Also Liberal, Oregon and Liberal, Kansas…but I don’t want to get this thread moved to the Political Arena. Wait till you get to Accident MD. I don't know if there are any other towns with the same name, so maybe it's a fortunate exception to Big's wormhole wish. Imagine popping out at one accident after another.

Now there’s a town where I should really fit in. Wikipedia says residents are called “Accidentals” Perhaps in my wormhole, I would emerge at various times in my life where I erred, went astray, and made mistakes. Certainly no shortage of those. I just passed Salem, Virginia. My voyage started in Salem, Oregon. A wormhole would’ve saved a lot of gas & hotel money, but I would’ve missed out on a lot of experiences.

Would this wormhole also include News? York to New York or vice versa?
Meanwhile, the thread drift leads to some interesting foreign language opportunities. Where would you end up if you entered the wormhole in Manteca--which means lard in Spanish? In the fat!

I hadn't considered that possibility, which I'll have to ponder for a bit. Your example reminds me of a few long-time friends. One, an ex-pat who lives and teaches in Manchester (not VT or CT) married a woman from Yorkshire and experienced some odd rivalry from the NYC-native husband of a childhood friend.
Spanish place names are great because they got reused a lot in the New World. That might be the only good reason to go to Toledo. By the way, our local grocery stores surprisingly don't carry lard anymore, so I recently drove 30 miles each way for manteca.

At Van Driving you will be put on a hobo incentive plan. Every 1000 miles driven you get to *hammer a hobo. *Hammer not included.

While we're on the subject of van drivers, place names, and cosmic wormholes (happens all the time), I should mention Enola, PA. A friend used to live there. Maybe still does, we lost contact long ago.
Anyway, Enola was the end of a rail line. The rail workers named it Enola because that's Alone spelled backwards.
