Until today, my costliest piece of adventure gear was a full Dyneema McHale pack. However, the time is approaching when I'll have the freedom to access trailheads with my own vehicle instead of whatever I can get from the airport. After a prolonged comparison of possibilities and interrogation of my AZ hiking buddies, and not quite as long waiting for a ship to get here from Japan, it's finally here.
Next up, I'll install front recovery points, add real all terrain tires, and get to work building a sleeping platform. After that, I'll probably be more limited than my risk tolerance than my vehicle.

Congrats! (You're gonna do so much better than my VW GTI...) You'll have a lot better acceleration, though. The 4Runner doesn't seem to work any harder going up a steep hill than it does on the flat, but it does both at leisurely pace.

How are you going to arrange for this new piece of gear to be at the airport when you land?

Nice. I think I see a cover for a recovery point already, or is that for something else? (assuming there's one on the drivers side as well)
When I've been in remote places with guides they've almost always had Land Cruisers (first choice) or 4Runners (second choice). They like the reliability, and the room for passengers and gear (gear and gas go on top).

And now I know a desert fan who has a vehicle that can reach the trailheads my Prius balks at (it goes places you wouldn’t expect, but there are limits).

That’s awesome, Big Load…! I love 4Runners! Congrats! Sweet ride. Is it a TRD or an SR5?. What kind of tires are you going to put on it? 10 ply all-terrains?
Once again, sweet ride! Enjoy…
Happy Trails,
DR

However, there's a good bolt-on spot on the frame right next to where they are. The 4Runner is now basically the same thing as the Land Cruiser Prado. People are speculating whether 4Runner would be discounted altogether or become rebadged Prado in the US.

If you need help loading a truck, keep me in mind. I am fairly good at loading, driving the truck, and unloading. Cost varies.

Nice, enjoy the ride! I bought a used 4R in 2021 and it has served me well. I went with all terrain tires but other than that have not made any major updates. The acceleration isn't anything to write home about and the gas mileage is pretty lackluster, but they are fun and great for off-roading. I am planning to pass mine down to my 7 year old when he's ready to start driving. So long as you take care of them they will last a really long time.
