Cool. How did Google images get you in trouble? Well my plan was to stay off the trails and just simply walk the lake shore all the way around island. So I pulled up google earth and looked at the images of the shoreline and there were plenty of nice wide beaches all the way around or so I thought. Towards the end of the first day the beach got less and less until the high dunes went directly into the lake at a very high angle. So I had the choice of turning around or taking my chances on the steep dunes that dumped into the lake. This alone was bad enough but as I decided to carry on I ran into half buried trees that either forced me up even higher on the steep dunes as there was no going under them. Walking on a steep shifting sand dune with a pack makes life interesting for while. A couple of days later as I was waiting for the ferry to show up I got to talking with one of the rangers on the island and he said... well you should have talked me to first and I would told you that there had been a couple of bad winter storms that year that washed almost all shoreline away on the NW side. BTW: what lead you to the answer since I gave hardly any clues.

I knew it was in the Great Lakes. I kinda was leaning towards Isle Royal. But after looking at images of it the shoreline didn’t match up. I’ve heard of the Manitou islands and online images looked similar. Didn’t think that I’d get it right so quick though. Nice looking place.

The peak in the background kinda looks like longs peak but I’m sure this is in the Wyoming.

This is indeed in Wyoming and I've posted photos from the same general area before.

Northeast to Pinnacle Buttes more than anything else. I thought the second pic would be a dead giveaway. Same hint as previous post from same location, a summit named for a cartographer.

Cartographer was on a very famous 19th Century Survey of the American West.

Sounds like Hayden, but I can't find a Hayden Peak in that area. I vaguely recall a similar hint way back when, but with 265 pages to search, I'm not having any luck with that.

Maybe I'm not understanding what mountain you want named, but those are obviously the Tetons in the background of the second pic, taken from Mt Leidy.
