Judge gonna get paid. He’s only making $19 million this year, loser. The people are saying he might double that in his new deal.

The Yankees couldn't get to a long-term deal over the winter, in part because he wanted something like 10+ years. I expect they and other teams are struggling to estimate how long he'll be highly productive. He has only had one big injury, but numerous smaller ones. His combined college+minors time is 7 years, so at 30 he may not have as many good seasons ahead of him as a typical 6th-year MLer.
ETA: For comparison A-Rod played 2 years of college ball and 1.5 years in the minors, so he had a 3.5 year age advantage in his MLB window. He was a couple years younger than Judge when he got his big Yankees contract.

That was just about the most heads-up play I ever saw -- Jeter came all the way across the infield from shortstop to intercept an off-target through to the plate from right field and flipped it to the catcher for the tag-out -- in a World Series game. And nobody has ever explained why the base runner, who was clearly given the slide sign from his teammate, decided instead to try to score standing up.

Can only speculate at this point, but the runner likely thought he had it made -- which he would have if not for Jeter's highly unusual relay. He may have seen the direction of the throw from right field and it did not register what Jeter (if he even saw him) might do.

That's my take - the runner was convinced the Yankees had no way to get him. I remember thinking when it happened that Jeter would never get to the ball in time.

But that's not his job, nor is it how the game is supposed to be played. His teammate at the plate was giving him a clear and strong signal to slide. And he strolled in... The worst person in the world to make that decision is the runner...because he can't see behind him.

Newsflash: Baseball player makes bone-headed mistake! Plus, it's a base running mistake that happened beyond second base. I haven't seen real data on this, but my not-very-wild guess is that the ratio of mistakes to opportunities for mistakes is much higher for base running than fielding or throwing mistakes. I also think running mistakes per opportunity increase after second base.

Call me a whatever, but I think the Jeter flip although a great play has been overhyped. Just sayin’ Not nearly as amazing as the DeWayne Wise catch. Don’t remember that one? Look it up. Plus Giambi looked like he was safe anyways.

By far the best play in baseball history was the homerun off Jose Canseco's noggin.

After a couple more walks last night, Judge is at 110 for the year, extending his current AL lead to 25.

And he may get more as now that he’s exceeded the record pitchers might decide to go after him more instead of pitching so much junk.

I was staring at the wall, 'cause the game was in Texas and got "blacked out". :^(
