Expect rocks. Lots of rocks. And if warm, rattlesnakes in those rocks. Are you describing Loyalsock State Forest or the notoriously rugged section of the AT in Pennsylvania? I haven't done a ton of hiking in PA (mostly in central PA), but each place has been rocky. I believe the closest hike I've done to Loyalsock is about 40 miles west (Black Forest Trail / Slate Run).

Just as they all turned color seemingly overnight about 3 weeks ago, all my trees dropped nearly all their leaves last night. We now have an orange yard.

Fall color was very weird here in the Flint Hills of NE Kansas.
It's never anything like in New England or the northern Great Lakes states, but we do generally have some decent color in the wooded areas, which tend to be majority eastern red cedar, but with hardwood mixed in.
We had a warm, dry fall, so the color was really poor and some trees were starting to lose their leaves without any dramatic color change. But last week, we finally had some cooler weather and a day of rain, and there was a dramatic change--overnight reds and golds (for the tress that still had most of their leaves).

We did a leaf drive last weekend. We went to Westmoreland Sanctuary in Mt Kisco. Most of the leaves in northern Westchester were at peak. On the way home we thought driving along the Hudson would be good color but it wasn't. I guess the river tempers the weather and the tress were almost all green still. Here in southern Westchester the leaves are just peaking now.

We had good fall colors that hung in the trees for a month with the amazing weather we had until the last week. Snow has piled up higher in the mountains, we had 2.5" of Rocky Mountain Cement the other morning here in town but we still have some leaves hanging on some of the cottonwoods with thicker canopies.

Maine pretty much ran through the cycle during the two weeks I was there (just got home last night). In the coastal areas there’s still color, but it’s falling fast. And none of it was as bright and red as in other years. Missed the best of it at higher elevations in western Maine; by the time we got up there last week more trees were bare than not, though there were still areas of nice yellow leaves.

I've never really understood the "foliage" thing but if you want to see lots of pretty fall leaves, come to my house. Bring a rake.

I've never really understood the "foliage" thing Same. Growing up in Texas, foliage was never a thing. I attended college for 4 years in CT, and, though the fall color was stunning, I never quite figured out what the big deal was. Just a reminder, to me, that a long, cold, damp winter was at hand.

Bookending seasons: much like the spring desert wildflower displays.

Last weekend I went to Governor Dodge State Park in southwest Wisconsin hoping for Colorama, but strong winds had blown most of the leaves off the trees. Temps reached the upper 70's. Little kids in bathing suits were playing at the beach.
Meanwhile I have peak color here at home in DuPage County, west of Chicago. Maple Grove woods in Downers Grove was brilliant yellow yesterday.

Saturday was spent mulching 8-12" of leaves over an acre of my property. I looked like I had just finished a Color Run due to all the leaf dust stuck to me. Probably should have been wearing a mask.
