Mountain house meals just aren't that good IMO, unless I am thinking of another brand. I like MH lasagne and mac & cheese. That's all under the constraint of the total weight of my food averaging one pound per day. (The gummy bears are heavy, so compromising on dinner. )

There are several MH meals i like, but I am not all that discerning. Chicken and Dumplings, Lasagna, Chili Mac, Spaghetti, etc...

I’ve switched to the MH pro packs for the meals from them I like, as the recipe is diffrent than the standard, listing more protein.

Is it just me, or is the MH meals from a few decades ago different from the current offerings? I disliked the ones we tried , didn't use bought meals until we tried Packit Gourmet, but like others, now find some MH meals pretty darn good. Chicken Fajita and Chile Mac stand out. We often don't have time for dehydrating, which is a project and a half for us. I think it was Ernie that recommended A Dozen Cousins packs of refried beans, if not my apologies , but they're great mixed with minute rice and Duke's Hatch Green Chile Sausages cut up in it.

MH though is still miles behind the upstarts from the past decade - MH is still very bland in taste compared to the new ones. One thing though is freeze drying is so much better now than it was 20 years ago.

I have found most of the Peak Refuel meals to be quite good. They have done a good job with it.

It wasn't me. I have limited experience with the higher end brands and I'm sort of cheap. I did try a Pad Thai from Backpacker's Pantry and it was very good. It was more than just pour in hot water but very tasty.

The Mountain House Biscuits and Gravy is surprisingly edible. It's also fast and not very sensitive to the amount of water used.
Back on topic, I used to dehydrate cooked rice pretty often, but eventually stopped. It never rehydrated well in any sensible amount of time relative even to hamburger gravel, which is my standard for slowness. Pasta works better for me than rice on the trail.

I recently purchased this Biscuits and Gravy from Pinnacle Foods. Looks promising. Yes, ridiculously expensive, but I don't backpack enough for this to be a big issue for me. I'll report back once I've tried this meal.

As for MH B&G, yes, there are 1730 mg of sodium, and that equals 75% of a daily intake IF one was only eating 2000 calories a day. When BP'ing, I often need 4000 kcal per day, and salt is an essential compound that needs replacing in the field. Often times at higher doses than I need at home. Personally, I like it and have added it to my breakfast choices. I've never been a picky eater, or too choosy about how much processing is done to my foods.
