I can agree with dark and twisted but no version of Romeo and Juliet that I've heard includes Romeo strangling Juliet as the last fateful act of boyfriend abuse, stealing her horse, chariot, and gold. And then returning home to act like nothing is wrong until he feels the heat of law enforcement knocking on his door. Am I judging Brian Laundrie? I hope not. But neither am I giving any thought of making him some angel or hero in a love story. Strangling his girlfriend (if indeed he is the guilty party) is not an act of love. I think you missed the dark, twisted and severely inverted, modern take part of my post. I'm thinking of a vibe with modern anti-hero-like characters with only a sampling of "Romeo and Juliet" archetypes, kind of like Terrence Malick's "Badlands". I wasn't necessarily thinking "romance" or a literal "reinterpretation". Not making anyone an angel or hero. Love and flowers are not as popular these days as evil and vicious types running amok. Keep up! :^D

The kind of stories elevated to sustained public attention, fascination, and discussion says something about our culture and psyche, though I'm not sure exactly what.
I do know I'm somewhat disgusted that the dysfunctional and ultimately tragic story of this inconsequential couple has garnered so much of our time.

in this particular case... Don Henley's Dirty Laundry always reminds me of Neil Young's Welfare Mothers probably because they both reference laundry mats.

Rust Never Sleeps
...(except during firearm safety checks)
Shelter me from the powder and the finger Cover me with the thought that pulled the trigger Think of me as one you'd never figured Would fade away so young With so much left undone

But thread drift is one of the defining charms about Backpackers Basecamp.
