Orioles have been crushing our feeders and apple blossoms this year. Here's a very bad photo of one taken through a dirty rain-soaked window from a good distance away (they're nervous birds)... And then, to my surprise, a catbird showed up to the oriole feeder. Apparently, in addition to insects, they also eat berries (and thus, jelly)...

Anyway , we have plenty of other animals that can kill you and are not venomous at all. Puh-leez. They just haven't found the venom gland yet. but what about this pretty little one ? another one from yesterday, a Brown Falcon (well a bit of it )

No photos, but we've had quite a bit of action in our backyard this month.
First of all, a pair of robins nested in the maple tree right off our deck. Lots of flying about and occasionally buzzing us. That ended last Friday when I heard quite a commotion, and went out onto the deck to see a Raven near the nest. I scared it away...but it had done the damage, and the robins are gone note.
But yesterday we were buzzed again, this time by house finches, protecting their little fledgling which were on the ground near the wisteria, with much squeaking and squawking...within an hour or two, the little ones were up on the fence, then off into the air. Hopefully our heads are safe now for a while.

My favourite kestrel having a stretch yesterday. I saw her eating a mouse 3 days in a row , yesterday was just sittingthere looking content. Called Australian Kestrel or most commonly Nankeen Kestrel. Nankeen is the colour. There are three about at the moment ut this female is most often around that spot. By the blood on the talon you can see why she was content.

We have a flock of about 300 Banded Stilts at the moment. We have been observing them for a couple of weeks. Mostly in one place in the morning and then a different spot inthe afternoon but we had not seen them flying, as a flock , till yesterday. Funny thing is that they flew from one place to another only about 30 meters away on our way into the park, then did the same when we were coming back about an hour later. They fly forming an odd shape photos taken, in reverse order, about an hour apart.

I finally got a semi-decent shot of one of the basic birds in my yard.

I finally got a semi-decent shot of one of the basic birds in my yard. I think that entire “sit amongst the twigs and laugh as the autofocus goes nuts” thing birds are so good at is why my new camera (Nikon Z7ii) has a setting where it will recognize birds and focus on their eyes. Other wildlife’s eyes as well. I got it as a weight saver so I’ve no long lens to test it out but there’s an adapter so maybe someday. Very nice bird! Mine are largely LBBs except in winter when the hollies attract flocks of cardinals.
