Not the best photo, but an extremely unusual bird this far west, and a very beautiful one. Blue-winged Warbler ![](https://i.ibb.co/R9Cr8zd/Blue-winged-Warbler.jpg)

Herons just seem to have such personality. Very stoic with that stare.
Then they honk and spoil it. lol

Yesterday, I saw a new-to- me bird, the Green Heron. I never managed to get a good look at it, and the sole pic I got was this one. I eventually saw it fly off, but it was silhouetted by the late afternoon sun, so I only got to see its profile. I initially noticed it because I heard a snarling sound from the tree I was standing under, which sounded nothing like what one would hear out of a bird. It made the hair stand up on the nape of my neck. I looked up and was eventually able to spot the source. ![](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53725609672_9164fe309f_c.jpg) I found some video of that sound (which you really need to listen to!):

There are always some down at the lake and we rarely get a good look.

I found some video of that sound (which you really need to listen to!): I can easily imagine waking up to that on a backpacking trip and immediately reaching for my bearspray. Would be a bit creepy on a moonless night.
