That is a male Superb Fairy-Wren (not a wren...) I like that Mick Jagger stance.

They can be agressive towards other birds invading their area. Much bigger birds too. (they are about half the size of a sparrow) Some birds do look very agressive indeed. This is a silvereye I shot a few days ago. We have a few flocks around at the moment. This afternoon the sun came out as I spotted a pair of Flame Robins. They have just arrived and last year I photographed the first on the same day. I saw them this morning but the male had the back to me and I did not recognise the female. In the right light the colour on the chest changes getting darker going from bottom to top. Very pretty. I'll stop now...

Yesterday I took photos of a pair of Peregrine Falcons. This makes 10 different raptors I have photographed within the 90 min walk area I do most days. That is 90 min on foot from door to door.

My garden is next to a tree-lined creek that runs through my back yard. I was pulling some old plants yesterday, and some motion caught my eye. A bald eagle "stalled out" over the creek, swooping for fish... no more than 30 feet away.
And on Sunday afternoon, we had the pterodactyls golden eagles buzzing our house again.

We spotted 4 raptors yesterday during our usual 90 min walk. Two Hobby, a Kestrel and a Black Shouldered Kite. (all very small...)

One more because I like this little bird. It's a White Fronted Chat, this is a male. Almost always in small flocks, one would be on the lookout. I could only find this one yesterday. Smaller than a sparrow.

Great photo, bradmacmt . We have had lots of those migrating through Texas over the past week. Do you know what he's eating? I can't tell from the photo.

Thanks trinity . I can't honestly remember what it was eating, it's been a couple years since I snapped the photo. Likely a mouse or some such. Here at the base of the Bridger Mountains, we live along one of the largest raptor migration routes in the Western US, which also has the highest concentration of migrating Golden Eagles in the Western US. Last week I watched a golden tearing the fur off a road-kill deer. Hair was flying!

I took a great shot of a raven the other week , very similar to yours, but the head was out of focus spoling the photo. With most birds if you get the light at the right angle you get some amazing effects. This is the very common starling, mostly a pest. Many only see a somewhat dull black bird but in the right light it looks like this
I need to try again because I have seen much better photos of a starling than this one.... (this was taken from where I am sitting now)

I’ve seen the same phenomena. When the light hits them just right most any bird becomes a wonder.
