The coast keeps being productive: Island Beach State park had a LOT of Ospreys building nests. I spotted one doing that ”align the fish with direction of travel to lessen air drag”. Always amusing.
Pity my gear is a lot more in line for landscapes, most any bird photo I take they’re dots. Dots I can enlarge a bit given my camera sensor is biggish, but that doesn’t yield much more than something I can get a Merlin ID from.

Yesterday, I was pedaling up a steep driveway to my friend's woodshop and got flummoxed in loose stone. Full stop, I looked up in a branch above my head and a screech owl was staring down at me. My friend wasn't there, and the owl flew right in front of me as I descended. I got out my phone for a pic, but alas that was not to be. Last year, I had a pine marten come out in front of me in this driveway. Lots of ospreys and eagles on nests. Fishing in my brand new tandem SOT yak today in a very good water fowling spot . Maybe get to see some purple gallinules that nest there every year. Saw a pair of swans on a lake I want to fish, but requires going through a very tight culvert, usually full of cobwebs and debris to muscle over. Reminded me of getting bit by a swan on Little Swartswood Lake in NJ, while having lunch in my canoe. A pair swam alongside and decided that my sandwich was better served as their lunch than mine. The male bit me as I pulled it to the side. I relented and gave them most of it. Don't feed the wildlife, unless they want to feed on you.

I have been going out with a MeetUp group called "Birding and Beers" Good people and l get lots of opportunity to photograph birds. Taken yesterday at Belmar Park, Lakewood CO. Blue-winged Teal. Apparently these are not very common in Colorado. We have loads of Mallards (of course) Northern Shovelers, Common Mergansers, Hooded Mergansers, Buffleheads and of course Canada geese. Others species too, that are not quite as common. Cormorant, they have a large rookery on a small island in the middle of the lake. This guy was taking more nesting material home. They came back to Colorado two or three weeks ago.

Roseate Spoonbill landing next to another. Using Florida birds is almost cheating.

I'm still taking bird photos almost daily and most are taken on our daily walk. These are grebes that I photographed yesterday. and these are Black Cormorants I took a few days ago My photos are on Face Book (Franco Darioli, I am the only one with that name...)

A few years ago I was painting our garage door when I heard a sound directly behind me. The Red Tail Hawk that often perched on a utility pole across the street had caught a sparrow mid-flight and brought it to the ground not two feet away. Initially it had both wings spread wide over its prey, but this was the only pic I could get with my phone before it flew away with the meal clutched in its talons.

I spotted blue-winged teals, pintails or redheads, wood ducks, and hooded mergansers in the creek behind my house this weekend.
Time to put the oriole feeders up.

This morning, the same Kestrel eating another mouse. When no one is about I can go right next to the tree where she is.

What's this one? It's much fancier than our bluebirds.

That is a male Superb Fairy-Wren (not a wren...) There is a lot of them where we walk daily. They are territorial so we pretty much see the same birds in the same spot. Each breeding male like the one in the photo has 3 to 7 females depending on the area. The non breeding males and the juvenile almost look like the females. A full sized (!) male and a female
