Do any of you use HEET for your alcohol stove? I've seen multiple videos of people using HEET and raving about how much better it is than products made for an alcohol stove. After watching one of the videos (this guy did all kinds of tests using 5-6 products), I decided on using HEET. Then, I read an article about how HEET would fall in line with some of the worst products you could use.

I use denatured alcohol; it provides the best burn times and heat.

I only use HEET when I have to fly to my destination. I find it gives off a harsh smell, and don't care to use it any more than I have to. $1.50 worth of HEET will get me through a week of cooking. Only use YELLOW HEET, as it is closest to denatured alcohol. If you are not confined by what can fly, use the MLS denatured alcohol found in paint departments of big box hardware stores.

Only use YELLOW HEET, as it is closest to denatured alcohol. Only use YELLOW HEET, as it is closest to denatured alcohol. I agree with that. I think HEET does give more of a smell. Denatured Alcohol gives off a slight scent, but isn't off putting. Also, it has other uses around the house. I keep it on hand in my garage and have a gasketed flask I carry that will hold 10 oz of DA for trail walking. I always carry a little more than I think I'm going to need.

Also, it has other uses around the house. And on the trail, works well for removing pitch.

HEET in the red bottle is for diesel motors, and smells terrible when burned.

I just use the denatured alky...inexpensive and no odor.....only downside is it really takes a big chunk out of my day...just can't walk in and out of Home Depot/Lowes....:-)

Using denatured alcohol to remove pine pitch from gear. Peanut butter works also, but then leaves a bit of a greasy spot. Bears love it.

^Yep. It's similar to sap but thicker and stickier. Alcohol breaks the bond so you can clean the gunk off.

Im using Everclear Grain alcohol in my white box. Burns slightly yellow cuz of 5% water content but it goes well with coffee :(

+1 for Everclear. It's quite a bit more expensive but it seems to burn quite a bit longer too. I dig it being multipurpose and not poisonous to boot! Is that "with" or "in"

What elevation are you? I'm 3500-6000 and have nice blue flames on my little soda can alky. It starts with a fairly yellow flame 'til the jets warm up. I'm sure there are tons of variables though from air temp, wind speed to even jet diameters and placement=p

I use HEET only in case of emergency. Regular denatured alcohol is by far the easiest fuel to find on the road. WalMart always has it, as does Home Depot and just about any hardware store. HEET has a slight edge with availability at all-night gas stations in the middle of nowhere.
