With Raynaud's disease in my fingers the biting cold of being out is only made worse by coming back inside to the stomach churning pain caused by warming them back up. Oof, sorry about your Raynaud's. At least you don't have zeke's problem of iguanas falling out of trees and into your pool or onto your grill.

I've never had grilled iguana. Does it taste like...gator?

36º here this morning when I woke up. Maybe it'll get colder tomorrow morning. tallgrass, I am sorry about your Raynaud's, and that my struggle with Florida weather isn't real to you during this time of suffering for those north of here. Trust me, July, August, and September are really tough here so I try to be elsewhere during those months. absarokanaut, Iguana tastes nothing like gator, as to me anyway, gator tastes like fish. Iguana tastes more like rattlesnake. Can't tell you why. Christmas eve this morning mostly means making the dish we are taking to the xmas dinner at a friend's home. I'll finish up the chrysalis table my wife asked me to make for her Monarch butterflies. Not to rub in my weather woes, but yes we are still getting Monarchs visiting her milkweed plants. A few are still blossoming.

We are out of the freezer. Now 40s and raining for the foreseeable future—i.e., a normal Seattle winter.

Most Iowans would think ill of anyone who made such comments. Waterloo proper is something of an urban market, where they might be less objectionable. However, it's best to think of even urban stations as covering a quarter to a third of the state. Those people wouldn't be openly hostile to him, but his accepted degree of personhood would be quietly diminished.

Well, comments are overwhelming positive, and the one person I know in Iowa who responded thought it was hilarious.

Fwiw here’s one non Iowan who remembers the age old saying about lacking the intelligence to come in out of the rain whenever I see a local reporter feet from their warm and dry studio, getting wind blown and soaked in the rain for a “report” on the weather.
I’m with the sports guy, who, I’ve read, is often the sole position on a news staff actually required to be knowledgeable about what they cover.

Nah. Not at all. This is reporting right in my extended neighborhood. I've actually known Mark for quite some time. He's a great guy. He got a deserved chuckle out of every Iowan. Everyone, everywhere those couple days could relate to his feelings and enjoyed his honest, snarky, brevity about the situation. He was quite surprised at just how far & wide his little montage spread but was overjoyed he brought a smile to so many people's faces.

It's been so ridiculously warm here, and is expected to continue through the next few days. Even when it's forecast to get cooler, it'll still be warmer than average. I'm trying to "make lemonade from lemons" by trail running, etc., but we're nervous about the future of our ski season.

It's been so ridiculously warm here It was -3F when we got to Iowa City late on 12/26, sort of a normal winter low. A couple days later it reached 64F before cooling off again. The warmth reached NJ by the time we got back, 51F at 3:00 am when we finally got our bags. It was 54F this afternoon when I went for a walk.

My grandson is chasing storms, some of which have been tornadic, in eastern Oklahoma.

This has a section about attics that you should watch if you have an attic and live in an area where storms and flooding are predicted. Which is pretty much the half of the country from Georgia to CA. My part of CA is used to absorbing huge amounts of water but most are not. Stay safe and be prepared. youtu.be/QLz72jlZDPQ

I saw a wooly bear caterpillar crawling along the road yesterday. It seems like the wrong time of year for that.
