This past weekend our ski mountain had the bare minimum of snow, and conditions were horrible. My wife called it quits after 1 run. Me... 2. My son... 4. Now the storm for this coming weekend went from snow to rain. Joy.
But misery loves company. I saw reports of ski resorts in Switzerland that are also closed or barely hanging on.

This past weekend our ski mountain had the bare minimum of snow, and conditions were horrible. For a while it looked like cooler weather was headed to the Midatlantic. Our forecast swung yesterday to two more weeks of unseasonable warmth, so it's not looking good for the snow people.

Mother Nature always laughs last. This morning I had finished up breakfast and was talking with a friend on the phone when there was a knock on the door. A neighbor, here to talk about the tree. What tree? The one that blow over last night and landed on our house. Hmmm. I guess I better check that out... insurance company called. Claim initiated. Tree service called -- and responded in fifteen minutes! Neighbors reassured. Time for lunch.

Ugh. A tree fell on my house a few years ago. Tore down an upper deck, gave me some new skylights. Rain inside. Mold. Screwed by Allstate. Thankfully that's over. Good luck.

Today NYC equals its longest-ever stretch without snow in Central Park (332 days), a record set way back in 2020. The other top five years are also fairly recent. The new record will extend at least another three days, and if the Wednesday storm is rain-only, it could go another week beyond that.

We had a gorgeous day. Chilly—high 30s and a good breeze—but clear as a bell. Great views of Mt. Rainier, Olympics, and even Mt Baker from Discovery Park in Seattle.

After significant snows across the southern half of Greater Yellowstone we cleared and cooled off. -29*F driving by the Aspens south of Teton Village yesterday, -22*F at the Airport right now. Bomber skies.

Bomber skies. Well that’s cold! We are right at 32 and have just the lightest hint of snow on things this morning.

Using the NOAA point forecast tool I saw snow totals in excess of 5' in some areas of our area mountains. Forecast for town here is perhaps 1.5' which is huge in a place chosen specifically for the lowest probability of snow in the region. Most roads in South-Central Wyoming are closed. Avalanche Control in the Hoback Canyon and over Teton Pass will likely be a serious challenge into if not through the weekend. This storm cycle is going to impact millions of people across the country. Keep your sticks on the ice friends. www.cnn.com/2023/02/20/weather/winter-storm-blizzard-monday-wxn/index.html

That summit is straight up strange. I was there a few summers back and the rime ice on the observatory roof railings was streaming straight out horizontally.
