106 forecast for today. High 90s for the rest of the week. It’s been well into the 90s every day for nearly six weeks with only a couple of exceptions. Worse, we’ve had no moisture. We’re standing at 10% of normal. And then there’s the ever present heavy smoke. Not a pleasant summer.

Worse, we’ve had no moisture. That's because we've been getting it all. We average around 3" of rain for July. The past few weeks we've received 4", 2", 4", 1"... nearly all in scattered severe t-storms... so lots of runoff. Another 0.5"-1" expected in the next hour. ETA: Yep... just got stuck out in it.

We are enjoying a cool day, at least so far (forecast is still for 91, but at the moment—noon—it’s only 75). Even had a few droplets out of the sky this morning! Humidity is up, all the way to 40%. Even that helps with the fires.

M is in Oregon, where she is claiming to be cold. She is on the Coast currently, and it isn't supposed to reach 55º at all today. We'll see. Here, in the Tampa area, it is currently 84 and looking like an afternoon t-storm is headed our way.

Warmest day of the week in Northern California today, 89F here in the south SFBA. Very welcome monsoon thunderstorms along the Sierra Crest that ought further dampen our wildfires. In about an hour will start driving up the 55 miles to the touristy north shore of San Francisco where the cool Pacific marine air will be flowing in keeping max temps in the mid 60F's, optimal for some fun urban street hiking in The City.
Last Sunday bro struggled out of our Mono Pass backpack with a serious knee injury. His birthday today.

Last Sunday bro struggled out of our Mono Pass backpack with a serious knee injury. Now when people ask why I carry my trekking poles I can add my answer... in just case of injury. Yeah, your brother used a stick but... same thing.

This year's total rainfall amount for Tucson is now the third highest since records were kept starting back in 1894. And, we still have another 3 or 4 weeks of monsoon rains to come. Instead of "exceptional" drought, we are now classified as being a more acceptable "severe" drought.

We just have a grey and showery week ahead. We were on the Erie Canalway over the weekend, very heavy dew on the tent in the mornings and flocks of skeeters. You most definitely do not need more deluges.

For the first time since last fall, am smelling smoke in our local atmosphere. Although a number of wildfires in our state like the Dixie Fire have made national news, wind directions this year have kept smoke away from the South SF Bay area I live at. However this morning as is forecast given the huge new Caldor Fire east of Sacramento, began to smell faint smoke that is forecast to become worse early next week as winds shift.
Since my air conditioning has not worked in years and is an expensive several $k fix, I normally just allow cool air in early mornings by opening windows/doors awhile, a benefit of living near the Pacific Ocean that supplies cool marine air regional inflows. This morning whole 2-story residence is just below 70F that most days just rises to mid to upper 70F's though pm outdoor high temps average mid 80F's. So just Amazon ordered a box with 10 each disposable 3M 8511 N95 masks top rated for smoke particulates for $25 that could also be used as an effective viral mask by simply taping the valve.

Northern California is burning up but I'm encouraged that the now more than 635,000 acre Dixie Fire has an estimated Containment Date of August 30th. S. Central Oregon's Bootleg Fire is 100% contained and about 415,000 acres. Welcome rains here in The Hole have again really upped the smoke odor. Hopefully we'll get a few clear days like we did when the last weather system moved on after some decent rain a couple of weeks or so ago. Could see snow at higher elevations this weekend.
Dave Senesac, Echo, everyone out there in Northern California and Southern Oregon, smelling this stuff here I can only imagine how bad it must be at times for you all. Really have our fingers crossed for you.

We were right in the bullseye. 5.5" at my house over the past two days and it's still raining. They got more in the hills upstream from us. For perspective, we average around 3.5" for the entire month (why I can't find one single repeatable number, I don't know).
Creek is over its banks. Yard is beginning to flood. Roads closed upstream of us.
Western Finger Lakes region got it bad, too.
The storm is now moving onto Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine... then it looks like Henri might hit this weekend. That won't be good.

Two-day storm total close to 6.5" according to my rain gauge. They think up to 10" in the hills.
I left work early yesterday because they started closing roads. An hour or two later, there was only one way in/out of town. When I got home, water was pouring into the backyard. It was touch-and-go for a bit, but it soon stabilized where it normally does, then started SLOWLY decreasing. Dropped about a foot last night.
Getting into work this morning was a challenge due to downstream locations and other creeks.
