Born here, raised here, never saw real snow until I traveled to Connecticut, winter of '64. Strange thing, this "polar vortex wobble" and the weather here today. It's been snowing here since 10 AM this morning without letup. (It's almost 1 PM now.) Big snowflakes. (Well, not like anyone gets up north, but the last time I saw ANYTHING here in Austin was a 10 - 15 minute "flurry" of rain/ice back in the late 90s.)

I saw video of a pretty hammered Lubbock the other day Gabby. Better than tornadoes though I'd guess. Keep your stick on the ice down there.

Stay home and stay safe—snow in places that don’t usually get it means really really bad drivers, as I’m sure you know!

The weatherman on KXAN (the local NBC affiliate) said last night that Leander, the little burg up highway 183, currently has more snow accumulation than Chicago: they got 6" yesterday. We got about 2" or so. The amazing thing is it's still on the trees and roofs! My car at 1:30 PM yesterday.

gabby , I wondered if you had gotten snow when I saw the weather reports and photos. I'm wondering about mk as well, and I think there are a few more Texans here. I don't think we've gotten more than 6 or 7" overall, which is unusual for Michigan. Usually the first week in January is cold and frigid, but we haven't had that cold weather or as much snow - nothing in at least a week or so. I was thinking that if my parents were alive and living as Snowbirds in Texas, they might be wishing they'd never left Michigan.

You have more snow on the ground than Syracuse. Green here.

Alas, in spite of my crossed fingers, my area of north Fort Worth saw only some wet flurries. It didn't stick even a little on the grass. It has been a few years since we've seen snow here, so I was hoping for an inch or two to remind of of home -- and what I don't miss from November to March. But freezing rain and snow here are a real problem - nobody knows how to drive in it, and they continue their bad habits of driving too fast and too close. It's scary.

Given the global jetstream constipation finally ending, to this winter date very droughty California is forecast to be hammered next week. And other Southwest states will so too. One of my ski areas shows over 100 inches of new snow. With only 4 days on snow this season due to all the pandemic restrictions and thin snow bases, expect to be bouncing, swimming, deeply through fresh light powder snow after the main midweek event.

My wife and I took a hike today to Castle Butte on the plains of eastern Montana. Sunshine and absolutely blue bird skies, 40+ degrees and no wind. Not a trace of snow anywhere. Way too nice for the end of January. It's getting spooky.

Nice. We finally got some snow and continually cool temps. This past weekend the mountain was about 3/4 open (as opposed to 1/4 the weekend prior). They're working on the remainder and continuing to make snow in the cool temps. Hopefully the entire mountain will be open this coming weekend. Pandemic restrictions aren't affecting us so far, other than our car serving as our basecamp and longer lines due to singles taking entire quad chairs. They reopened a couple of abandoned buildings to spread out crowds, so we're even able to eat our packed lunch in one of several large rooms that we've typically only had share with one other family/group.

We might get some snow flurries late tonight in far eastern Oklahoma. I'm not holding my breath.
