BigLoad Is it still on? My wife's 40th and some others I know of were postponed until next year. They have reserved 3 ballrooms opened up into one, with seating for 6 at each table. There are 106 respondents. Per the current State of New Hampshire requirements, masks must be worn and the expanded capacity standard has been met. Some have cancelled, others have asked for a postponement. The response was the committee has already done the work. and a new committee would need to be formed to move the year forward. Their other argument is that this is likely to be the last reunion. I find that argument weak. Planning an event of this nature is not complex. Crazy!

May decide not to attend my 50th High School Reunion October 3rd. It is horrid of me, but I am glad mine is in '21, but if we do not have a credible vaccine by next summer, that may be no solace. The school, in the ultra red quad of Arizona, is plowing ahead for the class of '70 at the 2020 graduation.

Thinking ahead as to how Covid 19 has and will continue to affect life for perhaps several years, then thinking back over time, of the various events and people who affected American and international life, I wonder how Covid 19 would rank as an event that created the need for so much adaptation.
Mask wearing was apparently challenged by some during the Spanish Flu pandemic. I wonder if it generated new mask making industries, toilet paper and sanitizer shortages, adaptation by businesses, and identified population factors of resistance, denial, and perhaps spurred a new style of living. And how, if any, did people changed as they recovered and moved forward?
I'm wondering if several years from now people will look back on the pre-Covid 19 period and reminisce how much easier and less complicated life was.
I also wonder if Covid 19 will leave a lasting impression on those alive today, especially compared with other life changing events such as the Great Depression and WWII.

masks ... spurred a new style ... Masks are kinda a pain, so I don’t see them catching on once a vaccine is (successfully) distributed. However, before COVID more were using masks flying to vacation or family gatherings to avoid getting sick after observing how Asian populations use them to avoid flu. I can see wearing a mask on a winter flight towards a vacation destination. Hate to be sick on “time off”. On the return trip back to work? Nah..

Another thought redirection, and some fun perhaps, to take our minds off the problems of these times. If 2020 was a math problem:
If you’re going down a river at 2 mph and your canoe loses a wheel, how much pancake mix would you need to re-shingle your roof?(Original is on black background and hard on the eyes, so I just retyped). Yeah, it's silly, but sometimes so is life. i.ibb.co/p0B3vxX/fullsizeoutput-278.jpg

Been a while since I've been by. I will tell you what happened to me this year more than anything: After not being able to volunteer anymore in March at my boys' school, and then homeschooling...I hit summer adfrit. I found my calling - in other volunteering where I was needed. I did something I have never done before. I became a hard core conservative candidate county volunteer. I had nothing else to do with my time but educate my children and farm, so I found a hobby. September looms soon, and homeschooling awaits. But I'm out there preaching constitutional rights, and my fervor for who I hope becomes our next governor. My current governor has shut down agritourism, which is decimating farms in our state. So I farm still, but the list of what I cannot do just grows. And that was my summer.

Considering a lot of America still used outhouses in 1918.....commercial tp wasn't exactly an industry.

Six months into the pandemic, as a socially gregarious single person that enjoys vocal conversation with others, I am increasingly missing talking to others. I suspect for use it or lose it reasons my vocal muscles in throat and mouth are in turn degenerating a wee bit so will be looking for alternative social ways to get together with others outdoors.

In the next county over, I'm starting to see blips in rural towns with small colleges. I'll need to keep an eye on that. Over the summer, the rural town where Colgate University is located had maybe 2 cases. Students returned last week. Now the town is reporting 18 cases. Grrr. To put that in perspective, Syracuse University is 8x bigger and has 10 cases (and all were in mandatory quarantine when their infection was discovered). SU's testing program has put us locals at (relative) ease: Proof of negative test before returning to campus Tested upon arrival, and 2-week quarantine Tested at end of quarantine Random "pooled" sampling to detect outbreaks; then individual tests if pooled sample is concerning ETA: Governor Cuomo Deploys SWAT Team to SUNY Oneonta to Contain COVID-19 Cluster www.governor.ny.gov/news/governor-cuomo-deploys-swat-team-suny-oneonta-contain-covid-19-cluster

Yes, the different levels of testing and protection from different colleges leave a lot of room for error. I’m worried about ES as Univ of CO. I don’t think they are doing much of anything, except requiring masks.
Second Son will have to report daily on symptoms, even though he’s studying and working remotely (I think he’s already doing so, as he has been working for the uni all summer). UCSD is huge, but has a pretty aggressive testing plan.

Colleges are looking horrible at the moment. The University Of Iowa and University of Alabama are especially noteworthy for massive outbreaks.
