Okay. I had a look earlier and was having a bit of a problem "translating" the fire map to the usual style of map. I finally figured out pretty much where everything was. The "fire problem" in Colorado is not much of anything compared to the rest of the US - or the rest of the world. This is ridiculous. This is even more so, though I guess most of those dots are smallish fires. Still ... I guess, given the way things are all around, you just get used to it, buy an oxygen tank or complain incessantly.

I am, unfortunately, making the call to cancel. :(
It sounds like you're going to get a pretty good turnout this year and I'm SO sad to miss it.

I am, unfortunately, making the call to cancel. Oh no! We're flying out Thursday for the Salida Fiber Festival this weekend, with a stop at Great Sand Dunes and a day of work before PG.

By the way, I've tried without success to get an appointment at the nearest place that issues the senior passes. Their process is for the applicant to leave a message with name and number. Then they're supposed to call back and set the date and time. They never call back.

Yes, we will. Give us a call and we'll probably answer. OK, I'll probably answer because somebody else will be jabbering away.

BigLoad are you trying RMNP? Or Great Sand Dunes? GSD is severely understaffed.

I was trying the nearest local place, the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, which is a just a couple hundred acres of swamp up the road from me. I'll do GSD in person, and if they can't handle it, I'll do the one-month thing when I get back home.

I probably told you a story once about that place. The bottom tip of it is about a half mile wide, dead flat, sandwiched between a state highway and a county highway. At any time of the day or night, it's a miracle if more than 30 seconds passes without a car going by. Well, close to dawn one winter morning they rescued a hunter who had spent the whole night knee deep in water, never more than 1/4 mile from either road, with headlights whizzing by all night long.

Alas, but I won't be able to make it this year. I'm heading out next mid-week for the East Coast - New Egland and D.C to be speicfic. I've never been to New England and this may well be my last chance to see the colors. Be gone about six weeks I hope. Hope you all have a great time at PG. Maybe next year.

I’m sorry you won’t be at PG, but have to say… New England in leaf time is not to be missed. I saw it for the first time in 2018, and it blew my socks off

It was a great time as always. I'm so grateful to msdoolittle , Deborah , zeke , BlueBear and everyone else who contributed and all those who attended. It was a good to be out in the world again with good people. Mrs. big_load enjoyed it probably even more than I did.
By the way, I did end up getting my America the Beautiful Pass at Great Sand Dunes. It took about 30 seconds. The local place still hasn't called back with an appointment to apply.
