Here's the view from my roof. Looking northeast at the Santa Catalina Mountains, Tucson.

Yeah, but what is in the other 3 directions?
I'm a desert rat too, even though I grew up in the plains of southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma and loved the Rockies. The most beautiful place I've ever seen is The Subway at Zion. I could live in the desert in the summer (less humidity and bugs, and here in the winter (if it snows for the 1st time in 5 years.)

What the heck, I'll play. No mountains, but we like the place... Four directions from my house in the Flint Hills of Kansas, on Tuttle Creek Lake, on a dismal fall day: (This first shot includes our in-progress guest cottage)

Just like people look at mine and say "Is that Oklahoma?" they look at yours and say "Is that Kansas?" If I'd showed the scenes from my home in Wichita where I grew up, it would be 4 houses and their lawns.

I'm envious - all that open space, and solitude.

I'm envious - all that open space, and solitude. Yeah, you notice that despite my comments on my preferences, I'm not posting mine. Just a suburban back yard.

I'm envious - all that open space, and solitude. It's all a trade-off, of course. We love being in the sticks and in the woods, but it's also a half-hour drive to the nearest real grocery store, etc. My wife and I both tend to stay in town after work on days that we have evening commitments, so we do definitely get fewer dinners/evenings together at home than when we lived in town.

Seems like choices often are "6 of 1, half a dozen of the other." I guess Camelot exists only in the movies, or in our dreams.
I love the greenery, but in my case it includes old widowmakers that periodically break off or come down, but wide open space could bring some strong winds and a different mix of wildlife. And I enjoy my wildlife, even the little squirrel that for some reason greets me when I go out to get the mail.
So I guess the choice is one we've all made one way or another: head for the hills, mountains, deserts, or wide open spaces.

We work 2 miles from home, so we still have to go to town. Yesterday, we had to drive 40 miles round trip to pick up a prescription and Coca-Cola.

hikerchick395, that's a stunning view, with an especially stunning moon.

It took me awhile to find a wider angle view from the kitchen (small enough file)
