GoBlue, I am sure lifestyle helps us cope better with the unexpected medical stuff.
My hat (backpacking hat, of course!) is off to you. And you wife. A good marriage is such a blessing in a medical mishap.

Hey, man, been following the Mrs. so up to date, but know healing (without going overboard!) is a hard thing to do. You'll probably test it a dozen or more times. You'll get there! Take care! *fistbump* ...since hugs aren't what you want right now. :-)

Thanks guys. I had my Post-op appointment with the surgeon yesterday. Prognosis is good, I'm healing well, it'll still be a long grind to full recovery. I tried to get a straight answer to the question: "So how many pieces was my collar bone in, exactly?", and he couldn't give me one. He smiled and explained it was four main pieces with "a bunch of shards" in there. "You basically shattered your shoulder" was his description. My shoulder blade was broken into (at least) 5 big pieces as well, although that's apparently not displaced, so they'll let that heal without surgery and some follow-up X-rays. Man, I don't want another surgery if I don't need it. Before (the small shards don't really show up on the X-ray, just the big pieces): After: When I look with my untrained eye, I still see shards in there (primarily from the scapula in back), but the surgeon knows his stuff (he's a highly acclaimed sports therapy "shoulder expert"), so if he says it's healing well I'll take his word on it, at least for now. When they took off the bandages and removed the stitches, I got a good indication that they'd sewn me up straight. I was happy to see it shouldn't ruin the artwork. - Mike

Woo Hoo!! Pics!
Been there with somewhat smaller bones. Wrist - multiple fractures, plate and screws. Nose - multiple fractures on one side, "dust" on the other.
But yours is a real keeper, if that's any consolation. Chicks dig scars. The tattoo right there is worth huge bonus points.
Here's to good healing!

Whoa! That made me pucker.
On the plus side, the tattoo didn't get messed up. Heal well, my friend.

Glad to hear the surgeon was able to satisfactorily put you back together again. Speedy heals, man.

Good to hear that the healing is happening. And I'm very sorry that it will take as long as it will.
