Granola bar. Small, light, easy, carbs, a touch of sugar. Eat it on the go.

Honey Stinger energy chews, cashews, banana chips. I always take a bag of Swedish Fish but don’t bust into them until the last couple days. Goldfish (the crackers) are great for sensitive tummies adjusting to altitude.

Goldfish crackers (the parmesan flavor--we call them salty nuggets), mixed nuts/peanuts, and chocolate.

A packet of Justin's Almond Butter Pretty much all those Justin's nut butters are tasty treats that pack a lot of energy and are actually healthy. I also carry my own nut mix and throw in just enough dark chocolate chunks to make it interesting. I also carry jerky which has a lot of protein. For the not-so-healthy snacks, I am currently a huge fan of Payday bars. They pack a lot of calories and have more protein than any other candy bar I am aware of. One of the most difficult things to do is get enough protein, which is why I make a special effort with my snacks that some protein is in it. I have come to loath regular "energy bars" as they have a lot of sugar and usually lacking in protein and the ALL important value of tastiness. YMMV Rumi

Again I'm not a hiker due to physical limitations but I know nutrition. I love cashews as mentioned, I will research that Justins mentioned. I know you guys burn a ton of calories.
Thanks Steve

I have come to loath regular "energy bars" as they have a lot of sugar and usually lacking in protein and the ALL important value of tastiness. Trader Joe's sells a version of the KIND bars, which are basically a bunch of nuts with chocolate and a bit of something gooey to hold them together. I can eat two on a long bike ride, the first with pleasure, the second with reasonable tolerance. They are (now that I think about it)not that different from a PayDay bar.

Can you say sugar rush and quick crash. Sugars and nuts both. They hold me over until I get my afternoon beefstick. Like you said..."snack".
