Coco water = coconut water? Or coco = cocoa = chocolate? I'm intrigued and confused. We use this for on trail Coconut Water and Either Vita or Zico for at the car. The CocoPowder supply from Big Tree farms tends to run out in late spring, so we order our summer supply in the late fall and early winter.

A short story about snacks and a window into treating yourself. Over a decade ago I was involved in a tragic incident in the Grand Canyon. In order to maximize our chances of getting help two people, myself and another, decided to hike out while the others stayed put. Those who stayed put made first contact and a ranger was sent to find us two hiking out. This ranger "found" us just as we were emerging from the Grand Canyon. She offered us water and snacks, which we both had plenty of because we had managed our food and water well. But she kept offering me a "salty snack" of either Ritz crackers or Pringles potato chips. I kept saying "thanks, but no thanks". On the drive back to the South Rim complex, over 20 miles, she kept offering and I relented. She gave me a half a stack or Ritz crackers. I don't know if it was the relief from the tension of the situation, the replenishment of salt, or what, but that was just about the tastiest treat I have ever had. Seriously! Since then I almost always take a "salty snack" like that. I have been know to take two tubes of Stax, which are similar to Pringles. I like those because they come in a slim plastic tube. Sometimes I use and empty tube to take Ritz crackers. The tube helps keep them from getting crushed and will easily fit in my Ursack. I like to share the treats with others. Yea, they are highly processed food, but as a treat, they are great. And the psychological boost I get from them is tremendous. Nothing like sitting in a nice breeze on a hot day and breaking out my Stax. Or sitting under a makeshift shelter out of the rain munching on Ritz crackers. Of course, I am partial to salty/savory stuff more than sweet stuff. Anyway, I like to remember I have them with me and use them as a carrot to get through difficulties. Rumi

The chocolate one...it's weird. For me, I get incredibly thirsty the darker the chocolate is. I don't like the super bitter flavor. If all I had was super dark, I'd never eat it. I don't buy milk chocolate often because it's crack to my brain - and I won't stop till it is gone. But even then, chocolate in summer is gross to me. It's warm, and coats my mouth. Again, chug-a-lug the liquids with it.

I tend to drink a TON of water during the day teaching. Like liters & liters, while not exactly being super active (just walking around the classroom). Yes, I pee a lot, but I think I screw up my salt balance sometimes. There are days when I get home I just CRAVE chips or other salty snacks.

I read something about a young man who died in the White Mountains NH. He was pushing too much water. He died of hyponatremia. I had never heard of before that. Anyway, I like one of the previous comments about listening to your body. So my snacks depend on mood and availability a lot. If I had to pick one snack it would be Triscut Rye crackers and Munster cheese.

I never realized their is chocolate flavored water. Yes, it's an abomination. Mrs. big_load drinks chocolate flavored water once in a while.

Since then I almost always take a "salty snack" like that. I definitely like to have salty snacks. The parmesan Goldfish we usually call "salty nuggets," and they fill that role. Ditto Triscuits, which go well with lunch, and the nuts I take will be salted. I sweat buckets when hiking, and replacing that salt is important, so I kind of reverse the home standards on that one. Often, too, those salty foods do taste better under those conditions, and can help a fussy palate (I can't say I ever lose my appetite, but sometimes some foods are less appealing than usual). If I'm going to drink coconut water, I'll take chocolate. But I'd rather drink chocolate milk.

Peanut M&Ms, skittles, peppermint lifesavers...Those are the ones I eat while on the move. When I sit down to snack, it's usually some jerky or crackers or a combination. I also usually bring a package of ramen noodles- full of sodium and carbs and really help after a long day!
