What a bummer for the beginning of the warm season! Listen to those docs and push yourself on the PT!

Get well. Bummer man! Where were you? Simpson Station Westy, we had driven past Simpson Springs to I think the first road going left. We had driven on it a couple miles and then set up base camp. The next morning we backpacked down the road a few more miles and found a clump of trees where we set up another camp. We spent the night and then spent the third day backpacking and searching for a third camp. That is when it happened. I do love the area and this was our third time there. Always enjoy the pack of wild horses.

We spent the night and then spent the third day backpacking and searching for a third camp. Sounds like you were lucky you were following an old road and she could drive most of the way. That would have been a full-on rescue situation if you'd been off-trail or something.

Sorry to hear about your injury. I can empathize as I had a new knee put me off trail for awhile a year and 1/4 ago. Keep the faith.

Always enjoy the pack of wild horses. On Facebook a friend of a friend posts wonderful photos of the different West Desert wild horse groups. The horses all have names and distinct personalities. The Great Basin always holds a special intrigue for me. Best regards.

Ooooh, ow! Hope there are no complications and your recovery is both speedy and complete. BTW, since I stumbled on this thread late, how about an update on your progress? Hoping the news is good.

Really sorry to hear that. I can really relate since I had similar close call in Dark Canyon Utan in early March. How far were you in and how'd you get out?
Best wishes for a fast recovery.

Suzanne is a rock star! And you'll be back at it and good as new before you know it. Hang in there, Tom!

Update, I had a titanium rod put in my Tibia, a titanium plate put on my Fibula and 9 screws holding it all together. It's now been 6 weeks and it feels a lot better. I get the cast off in 2 more weeks and then start intensive physical therapy. I plan on giving the PT everything I've got. I have a camping trip in the Jemez Mountains planned for Memorial weekend. I'll still have the cast on so no hiking, just car camping. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Best wishes to you from me as well. I've been lucky to avoid any injuries while hiking so far but it could definitely happen to any of us. I admire your toughness in getting out of there the way you did.
