I get 'Backpacker', which I've always preferred to 'Outside'.
They had a special of some sort and I bought a 3 year subscription.
I don't think it's as nice as it used to be, but I do enjoy getting ideas for places to visit someday.

No. I get all the information I need from MSNBC and the Huff Post. If they don't have the story it is not worth knowing about.

I do. In addition to Backpacker, I get The World, Time, Montana Magazine and may start subscribing to The Wall Sreet Journal. I also subscribe to the local newspaper although sometimes I'm not really sure why. My wife subscribes to numerous home and garden mags but I'm not sure what they are.

When I travel and have layovers at airports, I'll buy the latest Backpacker, Scientific American, Rolling Stone and Outside.

I am currently subscribed to Backpacker, The New Yorker and The New York Times. I have had subscriptions to Runner's World, Running Times, Scientific American, The Nation, and even Wine Spectator in the past. I still pick up the random copy occasionally when I see them on the news stand. I'm addicted to glossy print, but I'm recovering.
No, I don't live in New York, but the local Austin rag essentially consists of rehashed versions of NYTimes, LATimes, AP and Reuters articles (the editors of the "Austin American-Statesman" remove any parts of those articles that might offend the sensibilities of the heavily "born again"-"right wing"-"cowboy" types that constitute a large portion of the population hereabouts - I know this because I once had subscriptions to both newspapers and read both - I was appalled at how much duplication there was in actual "news content".) and oped pieces from AEI and the Cato Institute, both of which have little to say that I want to read. The Daily Texan (Campus newspaper from the University of Texas) is probably a better newspaper.
You're right about not making time to read the actual paper magazine/newspaper. I bring the newspaper in every day, but the primary person we get it for - the wife - mostly just reads the news on her iPad, leaving the newspaper in the blue plastic wrapper so often that I find myself removing it immediately before putting it in the newspaper recycle bin. I know that the Backpacker magazines I get often languish in their plastic shipping bags far too long, but, whenever I think about it at the right time, I enjoy perusing them in the bathroom, my favorite reading place. Sad fact: my iPhone is always in my pocket, so it becomes the default reading device almost everywhere, despite its small screen.
I once subscribed to the Backpacker electronic edition (which Apple sells on their media store), but found that it was essentially unreadable because of the mass quantities of animated advertising contained therein. It's bad enough to have gigantic ads throughout a magazine, but the electronic version of Backpacker had ads that literally jumped out and separated you from the articles you were trying to read, with animation, movies and very loud and annoying background music. I cancelled the subscription after a year.

We get both Backpacker and Outside, as well as Texas Highways and a few other publications. And the daily paper. I do read some things online, but I mostly prefer the real deal.

I read Backpacker cover-to-cover every issue, except the Gear Guide which I give away without even opening.

I used to subscribe to Outside, but dropped that a few years ago. Now it's backpacking and some trade magazines.

Backpacker Magazine
Not outdoors but also subscribe to Time because I have not subscribed to local newspapers for at least 2 decades as like TV it tends to interfere with getting more important things done. Time is an excellent way to get at well researched national and world news in a more bite sized though thorough form. I also get some periodicals associated with being a member of some groups like CNPS.

The only magazines that I get anymore are North Star, which is the North Country Trail Association publication and Adirondack Peeks, which is put out by the Adirondack 46ers. I'm finding more and more that Backpacker and all the rest exist mainly to sell things. I can get better and more useful info from picking people's brains on forums and social media.
