Well, this story kind of implies that. Even one drink a day could be shortening your life expectancy By Meera Senthilingam, CNN Updated 10:29 AM ET, Fri April 13, 2018
Compared to drinking under 100 grams of alcohol per week, drinking 100 to 200 grams was estimated to shorten the life span of a 40-year-old by six months. Drinking 200 to 350 grams per week was estimated to reduce life span by one to two years and drinking more than 350 grams per week by four to five years. link

Well, crap. Doesn't that go against what they've been saying for years about one glass of wine a day possibly having positive health impacts?

Let's see. 28g in an ounce. One ounce of alcohol per 6 ounces of wine. 100 - 200 g per week would be 4-8 glasses of wine. Who wants those extra 6 months if they are only added on at the end? I'd rather drink a little while I am young and relatively strong.

Making broad generalizations on modest alcohol consumption may be flawed. Would like to see the difference between those in a given region that drink a minor amount of wine every day say during meals versus those in same region that do not drink at all or rarely so. Studies show some ethnic groups that have lived centuries doing so have evolved so their body naturally better handles modest alcohol intake versus other ethnic groups from regions where alcohol consumption was historically not consumed daily. Note I've infrequently drank alcohol the last few decades. After even a modest swallow of some sweet wine last night noticed mr tummy did not approve as I woke up this morning.

Well a shortened lifespan is all relative anyway. Most of the women in my family have lived into their mid-90s. They could shave off 15 years and still live longer than the average person.
On a side note, I think a long life is overrated. I'm 40 and would be fine dying at 50.

You could live two years longer, but it would FEEL like five years........(without alcohol).

So, I'm sitting here drinking a glass of organic (no sulfites) wine, and a thought occurred to me...yes, I actually have this once-in-awhile....
This was a world-wide study, including some cultures, such as Russia, where they DRINK A LOT!!!
I would think this might skew the results dramatically.

This was a world-wide study, including some cultures, such as Russia, where they DRINK A LOT!!! The average life expectancy for a Russian male is just under 65 years. If these reduction numbers are accurate, imagine how long they'd live without alcohol. But would they want to?
