My allergies are kicking in. There's nothing quite like sneezing so hard that snot comes out of your nose and general gunk comes out of your mouth. Where's the Claritin D?
Spring is here.

Snow on Monday, record high of 88 yesterday.
Daffodils are finally blooming, and trees are starting to bud. Each about a month late.

Spring storms in Oklahoma and Kansas yesterday and today. They are much later than normal, so I guess it is now officially spring on the Plains.

Flowering trees are among my favorite things about spring.

I like the flowers on the path, echo! And strawberries--I've had about 6 from my garden so far, amazing flavor nuggets unlike anything you buy in the store.

desert dweller , is that a nest in the saguaro? echo , your first picture is a photographic poem, such a beautiful blend of color, of simplicity but also complexity of textures, lyrical, and highlighted by dappled sun. My lilacs are in bloom; that's always a special time because of their wonderful aroma. Blended with the darker Lunaria, they create a lovely blend of violet shades when mixed in a bouquet.

Thank you autumnmist I love lilacs too, but I’ve never seen any growing in our area here. Back in Wyoming they were my great grandmother’s favorite flower and our home had many and I miss that scent. I think they were believed to keep evil spirits away

is that a nest in the saguaro? autumnmist, certain species of birds will peck a hole into the saguaro and build a nest inside. The saguaro responds to the wound by creating a scab. This scab lines the hole and provides s dry stable environment for the birds and the chicks. The hole and scab will remain until the saguaro dies. After the saguaro flesh has completely deteriorated all that is left are the ribs and the scab shape. This scab pocket is called a saguaro boot because of its shape.

Sonora Pass is open! (As is Ebbetts Pass, over which we traveled May 5) Of course, we were hoping for Tioga Pass to be open.

desert dweller, it's interesting how a plant and a bird species more or less adapt to each other.
