I searched but could not find any detailed discussion here of folks' favourite trail mixes (homemade or commercial).
Would anyone be able to make any recommendations?
Thanks.

Whatever they will eat. Goldfish, M&Ms (also known as hiking pills), nuts, dried fruit or even roll ups. Day hikes can include yogurt squeezes. Many people have found that there needs to be 2 kinds of trail mix: one for the kids and another for more adult tastes.

Yep! Whatever they will eat. I love going to bulk food area of my one grocery store and just figuring out what to throw together. They also have pre-made blends in bulk. My daughter would be fine if the trail mix only included M&Ms. Everything else is an obstacle. Our Scoutmaster brought some trail mix on a canoe trip a couple of years ago, and he had candied ginger in it. That was a nice addition.
Ideas to add though would be goldfish, Cheerios, or any other cereal that's similar, raisins, yogurt raisins, or any other dried fruit, any sort of nut they will eat, and something chocolatey. Chocolate chips with as well as M&Ms. They just aren't as pretty in the bag.

My daughter would be fine if the trail mix only included M&Ms. Everything else is an obstacle. That would be my son! Except he likes Starburst, too. I learned to bring all the ingredients separately, since Eldest Son won't eat nuts. A bag of nuts, a bag of dried fruit, a bag of Goldfish, and let the boys bring the candy of their choice (from an early age I let them decide what and how much--out of the leftover Halloween candy!--but they had to carry it. That kept it reasonable, and they were good at metering it out so it lasted). I still tend to keep the things separate, so I can eat what I feel like, even though the boys are grown and not always with us (the Eldest Son has joined us on most trips lately, and he still doesn't eat nuts. Nut butters, yes. Nuts, no. It's a texture thing).
