Looks like a great place to hike. Hemlocks are one of my favorite trees -- love the pictures!
Hopefully the impacts of the wooly adelgid won't be as severe as projected, although from what I saw in TN and NC it will certainly be bad.

it's been so so sad watching the Hemlocks die off. the southern Apps got hit really bad after the drought year. deep gray gouges popped up in vistas all over the Southern Mountains, seemingly overnight. I have to go to the Cumberland Plateau to get my Hemlock fix these days.

I felt fortunate to be so close to hemlocks when I lived along the Cumberland Plateau in Kentucky, but unfortunately it's only a matter of time before those begin to die off, too. It's already started in some places. Depressing!
