A great find to be sure, I am generally happy to find an arrowhead or the like.
Just out of curiosity, where did the Global Warming tag come from? I didn't see anything regarding that in the article.

Don't you just hate it when you set something down beside the trail when you stop to rest and then forget to pick it up?

Just out of curiosity, where did the Global Warming tag come from? I didn't see anything regarding that in the article. I guess it was my assumption that with decreasing glaciers and snowpacks is what allowed the previously undiscovered sword to be found. It sounds like the route the hiker was using to go fish was not in a remote area. Maybe there's another source for the announcement which may have more info.

The Global Warming connection has been alluded to. "Oslo (AFP) - A hiker has stumbled across a 1,200-year-old Viking sword in remarkably good condition in Norway's mountains, archeologists said Thursday, in what could be another sign that global warming is benefiting archeology." link

Ok, there it is. Still, it seems more like a lucky find in a spring thaw from what I have gathered. It isn't like this is newly uncovered ground from what the articles have said.
