Looking to do a long hike through the Great Smoky Nountains. Looking for tips or potential companions!

Lots of people here with knowledge on the area; I'm not one of them. Can you be more specific as to how long and where you want to start?

Been there and the woods is really wide but it's worth the travel especially when you see the bliss of the nature.

Consider the Nantahala National Forest, just south of the Smokies. Smokies require overnight in shelters. Nantahala doesn't.

Smokies require overnight in shelters Note: The shelters are required only on the AT. There are many, many more campsites that don't have shelters and see relatively little use when compared to the AT Shelters.

The shelters are required only on the AT. Wow... that's disappointing. Since I have relatives in the area I always thought I might hike the 70 miles of the AT that is inside the park but I'll mark that off my list if I'm forced to sleep in the shelters. The AT has never had a huge attraction for me so maybe that's why I haven't done it already. But if I lived near by that would probably be a different story.
