Has anyone hiked in the Katahdin Woods National Monument? Other than the International Appalachian Trail, are there other hiking trails?
Are these trails as rugged as the 100 mile wilderness? Are there many established campsites or lean-tos? Are there good trail maps of the area or do you use USGS / some app?
Thanks, Steve

I found 3 maps published 2011, 2011 & 2012.
AMC, Trails Illustrated and Map Adventures. Which is "best"? Does anyone know of newer ones?

OK, another question.
Are there any trails between Katahdin Woods and Baxter? Or do you have to drive all they way out of the park just to drive into Baxter from the South?

KWNMThe National Monument is still in the start-up phase. You can sign up for updates and the opportunity to provide input on how the Park is ultimately configured. There are public meetings held that you can attend at locations outside the park. I have been advocating winter nordic ski specific trails, and combination winter dual use trails (Trudglings and skiers).
