Finally! You're actually posting pictures of places I've been! Mind you I've never taken a picture of great falls that was nearly that good, but still.

A couple of days ago I had a few hours to spare in the vicinity of Washington DC. I did a quick tour of the National Zoo, which I'd never been to before, followed by my now obligatory trip to Great Falls Park (Virginia). Some photos... National ZooThis picture breaks my heart!

By the way, it’s not carrying that tree trunk. That’s an optical illusion. It was walking over to one of the zookeepers who had some hay. (Not debating the ethics of zoos here. I have mixed feelings about that.)

I have mixed feelings about that.) Yeah, I didn't think it was carrying the log, just the body language looks very sad. I know, I'm very conflicted about zoos as well! They are necessary for rescue & research but it's hard to know what's ethical. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread Just made me think of the happy rescued elephants I got to hang out with in Thailand.
