Reddog noted in another post:
"Past versions of this forum (the one before this excluded) were a tremendous source of information for skills, equipment, destinations and general knowledge relating to (the north American style of) backpacking. Previous membership here totaled hundreds of years of backpacking experience. It was a great resource for novices to learn and for experienced individuals to get better at what we do (Love).
Unfortunately, with this most recent software change, we have lost years of valuable history. We have a lot of rebuilding to do"
Along with everyone else, I am very, very, happy about the rebirth of our little community. And my thanks to Steve, and the others who had a hand in it. But the loss of all that info is akin to the burning of the Library of Alexandria!
One of the most valuable features have been peoples TR's. Probably 80% of the planning of my trips have been from the pics and info contained in those reports. Maybe we can re-post some of our TR's to start.

FYI: Because HSF posted a link to a TR on the old forum and it opened right up, That was a surprise because I had only discovered that going to Backpacker.com (there is a link at the top of the Home page) is easy enough, but when I wanted to open the forums to grab more emails, I used the Connect>Forums link in the %$#@ drop menu and it shot me right back to here! So I guess that makes it official: this IS the forum, Start here. That opens a TR on the old site. You can try the search button, hold your breath, maybe go grab a sandwich. Eventually you should find your post. You could also check your profile for past efforts. The point is, if I could find a post by Mata that was posted in 2008 , I'd say your chances are good. While I did say that Storytelling might be the better place, people think the TR is the place for TRs. How strange. Why don't I rename the Storytelling area "Trail Reports" and try a fresh approach? As I suggested in another spot, a TR about the Olympics can be in the TR area, then a short pointer added in the correct Regional area with a link to the actual TR. (I think the Gear icon drops to reveal a "Link to this Post" and it builds the link info to then go paste in another location.) This is wearing me out so if it isn't clear, let me know. Bottom line: this is a good idea, but keeping a bridge link to the old forum is pretty critical, you won't get there without that backdoor entry.

Look at it this way. Just think of all the "stupid" questions we can get away with asking and not have to hear someone say, "Do a search. We've had several threads on that before." For example: This is why we need new members. There has to be someone willing to ask those questions. Right? And who is to say what is "stupid" and what is not? If you are young and new to backpacking, why not ask the questions? (Except of course because you are likely to get a lot of stupid answers.)

I used the Connect>Forums link in the %$#@ drop menu and it shot me right back to here! So I guess that makes it official: this IS the forum, I was over there and found the same thing. The link in the green connect box sends you here all the others sent me to the old forums.
