I'll stick with...sticks if I plan on grilling. They work great for me and I find them in the environment.

I'm pretty much in Tigger's camp. So to speak. For small items at home I'll even use one of these supported on logs. I've never used one backpacking but many others have. No assembly required. No parts to lose. Purcell TrenchI'm not into assembling anything I don't have to, but thanks for the info and review.

For canoeing I've used something similar. Nice way to prepare the fresh food from the cooler.... for kayaking with it's volume issues I could see something that compact as being superior to my rigid frame for grilling fresh caught fish etc. I tend to approach kayaking more as backpacking in terms of food and since I don't fish there's be no need but for kayakers who fish it's a nice solution. Especially maybe sea kayakers: a fresh caught fish grilled over driftwood? yum.

Agree for a kayak-er or car campers, where space, not weight is the issue, looks like a nice piece of gear. However, maybe not so much for backpacking though...thoughts: Weight may be prohibitive (looks a bit heavy) - that pound could be better spent elsewhere. Additionally, there looks to be a lot of small pieces to lose/break.
As someone who regularly gets high (traverses up into the no-fire zone Sierra...but that too), this grill-tool probably would go un-used for days, just ballast. Weight matters.
