I've never been there. Share your favorite photo if you want. The link provides some history of how the area became a National Park. CNN

Yosemite is quite a place! I got there myself for the first time this summer. We used one of the campgrounds as our base, and did as many day hikes as possible. Quite a layer of smoke on certain days. We were there for a week, and some days you couldn't see much. Fortunately the it was reasonably clear the day we did our big hike from the valley floor to Clouds Rest (21 miles RT, ~6000' gained). I can't wait to go back for a backpacking focused trip! Happy 125th!
Close to the summit of Clouds Rest (at about 9,900') in August 2015

I've read this book a few times. So-called prehistory, its discovery by white men, the native indians, and various other characters and events. I found it to be a good, informative book.

I've read this book a few times. So-called prehistory, its discovery by white men, the native indians, and various other characters and events. I read that one during my 1995 Yosemite visit. On one of our hikes, we got off the trail and stumbled onto a long abandoned route that I subsequently learned had been blazed by the Army before 1914, when they were still running the place.

Been there a lot, though we do most of our hiking and camping outside the park. Still, we like to take Tioga road across the Sierra when possible, and usually stop to run up a dome or at least admire the views, and have done occasional longer hikes. Several pack trips have gone into the edges of the park, including a very memorable night spent atop Dana Peak in maybe 1995? Mono Lake from Dana Peak at dawn: And here's one of our little road-side Yosemite adventures. Hanging out on a dome:

Yay for Yosemite, also Sequoia which just celebrated its birthday as well. BTW, CNN is mistaken... The grant that originally set Yosemite aside was not the first time the US government set aside land for recreation - that title goes to Hot Springs Reservation, later renamed Hot Springs National Park, located in Arkansas and set aside in 1832. I've been to Yosemite many times. My sister worked for the Yosemite Fund (now Yosemite Conservancy) and I took my LNT Master Educator course there back in 2006 Took my son there for his first trip last year...
