I have their smoothies almost every morning of every backpacking trip. Haven't tried the Ramen Rescue yet, but bought some recently and look forward to trying it.

I have their smoothies almost every morning of every backpacking trip. So I'll ask you...as someone who doesn't like things to be very sweet, and tries to avoid extra empty sugar, are those smoothies as sweet and as sugary as the ingredients/nutrition info suggest? It's not just about avoiding sugar, either. If I'm going to use something like that out backpacking, I want the calories to be worth something--protein and nutrients both.

rebeccad , I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I don't like things too sweet, and I have no problem with these. To me, they are fruity, but not sugary. They also have quite a bit of protein, so they stay with me for a long time, which many breakfasts do not. YMMV, of course.

trinity They sound worth trying. I need something to change up breakfast a bit. I like my oatmeal, but not for 8-10 days straight.

I'm a big fan of Packit Gourmet, they make some good stuff! Their Migas del Sol breakfast is one of my favorites, although it's more for car camping as I tend to only bring boil-in-a-bag stuff into the backcountry. Their "hamburger" is really good too.

C&C- Just curious; your trail name is interesting. What is the back story if you care to share?
On a side note, I think your taking a gap year is very smart.

It's not a trail name, it's the name of my blog - Campfires & Concierges - I like a lot of outdoor adventures (Campfires) but also really enjoy nice hotels, spas and room service (Concierges) When I was working, my big vacations would involve some sort of backcountry adventure, followed up by some pampering Thanks - it's not quite a "gap year" but I didn't know what else to call it. After 3 months of travel, I've settled in Tucson, however still enjoying being unemployed with plenty of time for exploring my new hometown!

My favorites are the Texas Mesquite Smoked Chicken Salad and Cajun Ranch Chicken Salad. For useful for treating yourself to the best lunch ever or as a alternative no cook, fuel saving dinner. Provides a mental incentive as a self-serving carrot and stick reward that can be applied as a motivational tool or enhance the power of positive hiking!

I like a lot of outdoor adventures (Campfires) but also really enjoy nice hotels, spas and room service (Concierges) I get that. My trips are similar, without the room service and spa.

I've seen a lot of stuff about Packit Gourment. Shug, of Youtube hammock video fame (if that is fame?) swears by them. Other folks I know mix a few into the food bag because they are different. Going to have to check them out.

Thanks for the reminder.
I'm going to have to give their stuff a try.
Their facility is single-digit miles from my home.

My wife and I have used Packit Gourmet for years. Ramen Rescue is good, so are their smoothies, and they make a nice margarita mix (you just have to carry in some tequila).
