Packit Gourmet makes a decent dehydrated roast beef. I've made my own, too. Not bad. Mccormicks gravy pack, some olive oil, spice to taste. Keep it light!

Yup. You can dehydrate that can of beef if desired. Add the gravy makings to the meat in a freezer bag, add water, and you've got the meat gravy to pour over the spuds.

I had a friend bring canned beef like that once, car-camping. Couldn't eat it for the smell. Maybe I've had pet dogs for too long but it was just waaay too much like dog food.
I do make a meal that's somewhat similar. Instant stuffing, instant mashed potatoes, chicken in foil packets (or you can use dehydrated) and instant gravy. Throw a few dried cranberries in and it's "Thanksgiving dinner".

I've seen canned beef that was rather too much like dog food, and canned beef that was very good. Trader Joe's carried it for a while, and not surprisingly theirs was good. I've been a bit hesitant to try the stuff at Costco.
