The best vacations are those from which you require a vacation to recover.

Busy month! Action-packed is right...I'm exhausted! I saw your comment about moving every day, and I know what you mean--we did a couple of month-plus trips that way in our pre-kids days, and I found it exhausting and a little unsatisfying. Funny, it doesn't bug me to do that backpacking, but when traveling by car, I think it is better to stop for a few days and really explore, as well as giving yourself a break from setting up camp. You being alone makes that all the more the case--at least when we do it, we can divide the work, and if we pull in at dinner time, I can cook while the spouse does everything else! (It occurs to me that there are two reasons moving daily while backpacking is less stressful. For one thing, it's what you do, but more to the point, all the travel time is doing exactly what you are out there doing. It's not transport from point of interest to point of interest. It's walking through what you came to see). But great photos, anyway! Though I have to note that the Painted Hills is the the Painted Hills Unit of John Day National Monument

Good to see your road trip brought you to so many special places. Where do you most want to return to for a longer vacation?

Good to see your road trip brought you to so many special places. Where do you most want to return to for a longer vacation? I'm not technically "on vacation" - most of these places I've been before, at least to the region, so this is my return trip. The goal of this trip is to find a new hometown. So far, St George, Utah is my favorite. However, I'm heading to Tucson soon for at least a few weeks to investigate the potential of staying longer. Lots of places I'd love to return during ski season, too! Tahoe for one

How wonderful!! I've wanted to do this myself for some time. Very interested to hear where you finally choose. 😀

I do love it here, although I'm told summers are brutal. Ideally, I'll find a remote job that allows me to work online (and possibly spend summers in Colorado) If not, I'll be hibernating in the A/C just as I did in Chicago during the summer!
