I'm thinking of circumnavigating Mt. Hood next summer on the Timberline Trail. The Trails Illustrated map doesn't show any established backcountry campsites. Is backcountry camping permitted and if so can anyone recommend a few places that might be nice to set up?
Thanks!

I did this trip 12-13 years ago, and camped at Cloud Cap Saddle CG, then Ramona Falls. I had intended to camp near McNeil Point trail split off from the Timberline Trail, but I got there about noon and decided to go on to Ramona. There is also camping at Paradise Park, which is wonderful. I camped there on a separate trip. Maybe there has been more of an effort to make those camps designated looking, but other than Cloud Cap they were primitive at best. I started from the Lodge parking lot, going counter-clockwise. If I had to do it all over, I'd go the same way. I understand crossing the Coe is an adventure sometimes. a better list of campsites and water sources.
