Fine. I'll try the original at least once. Then start experimenting with almond-milk powder.

Wouldn't that be awfully sweet? I do try to avoid too much sugar, even on the trail. The meat makes sense, and I often take a summer sausage and/or jerky. Jerky is really good for protein for not much weight or bulk, and since shreds of it tend to stick in my teeth, I can snack on it all afternoon :D Awfully sweet, no, but good and sweet, yes. A Strawberry Cheese Cake has 22g of sugar, 78g of carbos, and 520 calories with 180 calories from fat. Backpacking is the one place it makes reasonable sense, to me, to eat junk like that. There is, to me, a good mix of quick energy, mid term energy and long term energy from a meal like Strawberry Cheesecake; no cooking, quick, and very easy clean up. Very often we stop for lunch, eat, and go in less than 15/20 minutes. We do not use an alcohol stove, no shut off valve, so we carry the heavy cooking fuel canisters. This year we did 277+ miles of backpacking and we used less then 3 of the 7.4oz (gross weight), canisters of fuel. From time to time we use the stove for a breakfast or lunch, planned, but not often; more cooking, requires more fuel, and equals more weight to carry.
