For those of us not attending the annual Pickle Gulch (PG) festivities, may I present the Non-Pickle Gulch Thread. Suggested uses of this thread could include: For myself, no celebration of Autumn is complete without looking forward to winter. So here is off-trail in Black Elk Wilderness. Not even one Pickle Gulch picnic table in view:

If I were attending Pickle Gulch, I'd be halfway up a 14er now, instead of planning a leisurely afternoon dayhike on the AT. Afterward, I'll meet Mrs. big_load at Millbrook Village, where she's an NPS volunteer working at Millbrook Days, their biggest event of the year. It's time to grab the daypack and run.

My question is, Why is it assumed that those at Pickle Gulch were keeping the forums alive? Most still hang out at fecesbook and haven't embraced this excellent new home. (Too bitter of me to say it? Too bad.) File this comment under the category listed above, • And any other permissible mischief, charades, distractions, bacchanalian ribaldry that may come to mind . . . **The above statement by me, desertdweller, is pure sarcasm. Next time I'll make sure to flag it appropriately.

Most still hang out at fecesbook ...And you know this how? If you also visit FB, do you make them aware that they are missing out?

What really happens at Pickle Gulch anyhow, half naked, middle aged, people passed out, face down in the dirt? I don't want to see those pictures.

Instead of climbing a 14er, I biked 67 miles and some 6800'. Take that, PG pikers!
I would like to engage in ribald persiflage, but I am brain-dead. Maybe tomorrow.

So I went out on an overnight. Alone. Built and sat by a fire for a few hours. Alone. Enjoyed some wine and listened to the wind. Alone. Went to my dark tent. Alone. Nope, no jealousy on my part!

I'm not much of a drinker so have never gone to PG. I've been taking care of my parents this past week - my Mom had surgery and my Dad, the night before, fell down after having one too many beers. Resulted in some serious back pain and had to take him to urgent care... Hence we circle back to my first sentence. We had one taste of autumn-like weather already, and looks like more is on the way soon. Here are a couple of photos from this last week - finding mud-puddles in the desert, hiking (running) on the PCT, and the view out the historic Belleville Cabin in Holcomb Valley showing some rabbit brush fall color
